A good Living Social: Baltimore's Darker Than Blue Café

You have to make reservations for Darker than Blue Café's brunch and they have two separate seatings: one's at 11:30 am and the other is a 1 pm. The unpretentious former little row house has limited seating. The buffet setup is in back. Art for sale, pertaining to jazz, hangs on the walls and jazz plays in the background. On certain nights, they have live music. The soul food cuisine is all made fresh in house.Peach mango iced tea is the fresh tea of the house. It's a sweet tea . . . while I'm glad I tried it, I generally need to do unsweetened tea and add my own Splenda.The buffet had stewed curry chicken and rice, fried chicken wings, fried and battered catfish, very moist link and patty sausages, sweet potatoes, tangy-smoky greens, green beans, Mac and cheese with a black pepper hit, biscuits and a thinner gravy.In general, I was very pleased with their recipes.Besides the buffet bar, they make waffles and scrambled  eggs with cheese to order at Darker Than Blue Café. I usually am not a fan of waffles -- so often, they taste just like gummy bread to me -- but ordered these on a lark. They're outstanding! I kept eating them and eating them. I had been getting notices in my inbox to use my Living Social discount that I purchased for Baltimore's Darker Than Blue Café on Greenmount. I had to make it fit into my brunch schedule, because quite frankly, I'm not comfortable with Greenmount Avenue at night. I've certainly been to Greenmount plenty during the day: I used to do a lot of trial work at the District Court at Greenmount and North, and I've visited Green Mount Cemetery looking for John Wilkes Booth with Jon Brayton and with RoCK, looking up his ancient ancestors planted in the corner.

I usually am not a fan of waffles -- so often, they taste just like gummy bread to me -- but ordered these on a lark. They're outstanding! I kept eating them and eating them.
