Buddy Ebsen, famous for The Beverley Hillbillies, was originally cast as The Tin Man.  He suffered an allergic reaction to the aluminum paste he was wearing during filming.  Jack Haley replaced him.

Margaret Hamilton was severely burned during the Munchkinland scene.
