7 fun things to do in St. George, Bermuda

Go for a scenic stroll - if you're looking to walk and relax, and maybe get away from the really crowded tourist areas for a bit, Somers Garden is a wonderful place to do that.  It's small but very pretty, with lots of gorgeous flowers and plants.Enjoy some entertainment - if you're looking for free entertainment there's no guarantee when and where it will take place, but the odds are good that something will be happening in the town square when you visit.  We were fortunate enough to see this duo perform and play some tunes for us.Take a historical walking tour - When you visit St. George, it's easy to find a walking tour.  As soon as you step off of the ferry and enter the town square, you'll find the area where tours start.  There's often a guide, in costume, rounding people up and waiting to kick off the tour.  The best part is that it's offered daily, and it's free!View the list »
Tobacco Bay Beach - though it's a bit smaller than many of the other beaches in Bermuda, and it doesn't have the classic pink sand, Tobacco Bay Beach is a stunning location.  Even if you're not up for sunbathing or taking a swim, it's worth it to come down here just to see and take some pictures.

Though St. George isn't one of the places were the cruise ships dock anymore, it's still worth a visit if you have the time during your trip to Bermuda. St. George is a city that is full of charm and history.

It has a very different feel than Hamilton, and you may at first think that you've gone back in time a bit when you arrive. They definitely get into the historical aspect, and offer free walking tours to take you by some of the major buildings in the town.

In addition, St. George has one of the most beautiful beaches on the island, Tobacco Bay Beach. If you're a beach fan it's worth making the trip out to St. George just to experience it. You'll also find plenty of restaurants and shopping opportunities, so that you can easily make a full day out of your trip here.

  • Dine on the water's edge - there are a number of restaurants in St. George where you can sit right on the water.  Pictured here is Wahoo's Bistro and Patio, a charming place that features a menu with an emphasis on Wahoo, a kind of fish.
  • Take a fun picture in the square - odds are good that if a place offers a fun photo opportunity, many people won't be able to resist!  St. George is full of fun and charm, and the stockades in the middle of the square offer the perfect chance to get a little goofy and take some photos.
  • Visit Fort St. Catherine - an interesting, historic location, if you have some extra time in St. George it's worth a visit.  The place has been well preserved and provides lots of interesting facts and information, so if you're looking for a more educational option this is not to be missed!
