Yesterday, the first trailer to The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 hit the web. The first part in this finale sees Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) become the leader of the resistance who set off to stop the corrupt Capital and its leader: President Snow (Donald Sutherland). However, Katniss will face major complications; such as Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) who is being held prisoner within the Capital. The film arrives in theaters this November. So in order for anyone to get a glimpse of the film, all they have to do is watch the teaser trailer. While the preview is only a minute long, there is certainly plenty to see. However, to make things easier, here are 6 factors that can give you a better understanding of whats to come in the next installment of The Hunger Games franchise.
Katniss becomes a leader
Katniss is going to go from the Girl on Fire to the Mockingjay. For two years, Katniss has been just a girl trying to survive the Hunger Games However, through surviving the first event, Katniss became a symbol for Panem; though she was reluctant about the whole thing. Now though, with the Capital's corruption spreading, it seems that Katniss has no choice but to become the leader she was meant to be. Needless to say, this is a good direction for the character.
(spoilers) At the end of Catching Fire, it was revealed that there was in fact a District 13. From watching the teaser to Mockingjay Part 1, it seems that we will be seeing a lot of the mysterious district as it is the rebels' base of operations. It is likely that we will be seeing a lot of District 13 in the upcoming movie. Whether or not this District will be around in Part 2 remains to be seen (unless you already know what happens from reading the book).
The teaser may have been brief, but the preview manage to reveal some new faces to The Hunger Games cast. The most notable appearance was Julianne Moore as President Alma Coin. Thanks to her conversation with Phillip Seymour Hoffman’s Plutarch Heavenbee, viewers can get an idea of Moore's character. While shown briefly, other characters were featured in the teaser; like Natalie Dormer as Cressida and Robert Kneeper as Antonius. While it will be great to see familiar faces, is also that the new characters to the series could make the ensemble that much better.
Things get Real
In the previous films, moviegoers have seen Katniss and Peeta survive two Hunger Games. This time though, that is no longer the case. Rather then surviving victors, Katniss has to endure an entire legion of armed forces trying to kill her. Not to mention that this young lady has to maintain the well being of a entire group. While this change of status could be weird for newcomers ,perhaps the two past survival games were but a prelude to what Katniss has to deal with in this upcoming film.
War is Coming
It seems that Katniss will understand what it will be like to be in a war because no matter how you look at, war is coming to Panem. Whether or not Mockingjay Part 1 will just have a few skirmishes is only known by Hunger Games fans. Though, just by watching this teaser, we will be getting a few action sequences. How many may be determined by the film's full trailer.
Interestingly enough, there was no sign of Josh Hutcherson as Peeta in this teaser. From previous content on Mockingjay Part 1, viewers know that the character is in the movie . However, we saw nothing of him in the teaser. It could be that because Peeta is stuck in the Capital and the teaser focuses mostly on the residence of District 13 may be the reason of Peeta's absence. While this is not a major issue, it is interesting note due to Peeta's relevance in the Hunger Game's story.
