Salon professionals go to great lengths to ensure that every client who sits in their chair feels at ease. However, when it comes to getting a great cut or color, it is also important that the hairstylist is at ease. Unfortunately, there are many things salon clients do that can make future appointments uncomfortable, and sometimes even downright awkward.
Moaning while being shampooed
Yes, I know I have magical fingers and, yes, I know it feels good to have your hair washed. That doesn't make your moaning any less awkward, however. This is a hair salon, not an Herbal Essences commercial.
Inviting your stylist to personal events
I'd be happy to attend your wedding (if the boss will let me have a day off) or any other major life event, but I have to draw the line somewhere and that line is your daughter's piano recital, your son's soccer game, or your nephew's bar mitzvah. It's a no-win situation for a stylist. If we say yes, we'll feel conspicuously out of place. If we say no, your next appointment could be super awkward.
Stalking your stylist on Facebook
Unless you want us to think you're some kind of creep, don't show up at your next appointment and remark about something we posted on our Facebook timeline. If you sent us a friend request and we haven't accepted it, it's probably because we often use Facebook to complain about creepy clients to our hairstylist friends.
Asking us to recommend store-bought hair products
It's hard enough keeping up with the thousands of professional haircare products on the market, let alone the stuff you can buy at Walgreen's or Target. Our opinion of Garnier Nutrisse color? Don't know, haven't tried it. But even if it works great, why would we tell you? That wouldn't be very good for business, would it?
Sending us unwanted referrals
"I convinced my friend to come see you. She tried bleaching her hair and now it's bright orange at the roots and she totally fried her ends. By the way, her hair is super frizzy and thick and down to her waist. She does her own color because she says she's been to every stylist and town and she hasn't found anyone she's happy with. I told her that you'd give her a great deal." Fantastic!
