Are the kids tired of being stuck at home? Do you want to try something different this winter? Try one of these great activities this weekend. IF you don't mind braving the cold the Potowatami Zoo (Indiana's oldest Zoo) has one of their 3 winter days this weekend.

If you want to try something a little more active a variety of venues offer fun out door winter activities from skiing to skating and everything in between or take a trip to the Kroc center to float in the lazy river, climb the 25 foot vertical rock wall, or just chill out in the 14 seat hot tub.

Open skating is available at the Compton Family Ice Arena daily. Free for ND Students, Staff and Faculty, admission is $5-$7 and skate rental ranges from $3-$6. Skating lesson are available. Visit www.und.com/comptonarena for details.

Looking for some outdoor fun? Visit the Howard Park Ice Arena. Open for several 2-3.5 hour sessions daily admission is $5-$6 and skate rental is $3. Specials and coupons are posted on the website, however this park is dependent on the weather.

Featuring a variety of winter activities from hiking, and skiing, to snow shoeing, and tubing there is something for everyone. Fees vary depending on activities and hours vary by park. Check the website for specifics of which activities are offered and specific fees.

The South Bend Kroc center offers a rock climbing wall for everyone from novices to the seasoned veteran; an aquatic center with a lap pool, waterslides, a lazy river, a spash pool for the little ones, and a hot tub to relax in; and a 7000 square foot fitness center with machines to get any heart pumping. Day passes provide access to ammenities ($5.50 for youth 1-17 and $7.50 for adults over 18) or purchase an annual membership and kickstart your fitness goals.

5) Potowatami Zoo Winter Days

Visit the zoo on one of 3 open winter days and see how our furry friends spend their winter in snowy South Bend. This zoo features lions, tigers, and crocodiles (some of whom prefer the warmer climates and may be sleeping). Their January date is the 11th and they are open 10-4. Admission is $5.50 per person over 2, or purchase an annual pass and come back all year long.
