5 superstitions that make us superstitious

The number 13, is the unluckiest number ever. Buildings have been known to avoid numbering the 13th floor and it's just a number that a lot of people think unlucky. The day Friday the 13th, gets the wrap of being unlucky too which it's so popular that it spawned a movie series and a TV show.Why are we afraid of this number? Legend is steeped into Scandinavian myth where there were 12 gods and once a  13 god joined, it was an evil entity that would harm people. In Christianity, there were 13 people at the Last Supper. Most of the things that is associated with the number 13 isn't always lucky. So that's another superstition people have is the fear of this number.  The bat, the creature of the night gets a lot of attention that isn't always great. Many legends tell us that this bat is really a vampire. It sucks the blood out of unsuspecting humans. In reality some vampires suck the blood out of animals not humans. Anyway bats are looked at as death again with this superstition, when a bat flies around your house three times you'll die. Also another one is that if a bat flies around your house it meas that there are ghosts in your house. It's unlucky to see a bat during the daytime, if a bat flies into your building there is going to be rain, killing a bat shortens your life, but there are some good points about the bat, if you see a bat flying around the early evening, there will be a great weather and it's lucky to keep a bat in your clothes.There are many things about the bat that has been past down in superstition and legend, though this animal is just a nocturnal creature that helps control the insect population it still scares many because of it's devious lore.The ladder superstition is like this, if you walk underneath a ladder you'll get some nasty bad luck. But why? According to the legend it has to deal with many things the Ancient Egyptians would used the ladders to guide the spirit of the recently dead person to the afterlife. Ladders also relates to the Medieval gallows, which means death. So according to both of these accounts, you're walking into spirits and it has to deal death. Some very creepy thoughts.Anyway, what if you accidentally go underneath a ladder? Here's two things that you can do to help the bad luck or even worse: Spit through the ladder rungs three times and cross your fingers until you see a dog. Even people would use the mirror to see their future and witches and vampires can't see their reflections because they don't have souls. Anyway the broken mirror superstition started way back in the  Ancient Greek and the Romans were they believed that if the mirror breaks so does your soul hence the bad luck.But what if you break a mirror?   • The black cat, is not an evil cat and it's like any other cat in the world but as superstition has it no animal is safe with folklore. According to Irish superstition if a cat crosses your path by moonlight means death in an epidemic. Also these cats have been associated with witches and witch trials. The Pilgrims would kill or torture someone who owned a black cat.  It's bad luck to drive away a black cat and meet a black cat in the early morning.But don't fret, not everyone saw these cats as bad luck, in England if a young woman owned a black cat, she would get many suitors, in Yorkshire it was lucky to own a black cat but not crossing it's path, fisherman wives would keep them because they thought that their husband would be safe, it's good luck to touch a black cat, and meeting 3 black cats will give you luck.So now that you see different ways people see this simple animal. Some people saw the cat as a demon cat while others saw it as an lucky omen.
