5 reasons you’ll like ‘The Face’ more than ‘America’s Next Top Model’

Guaranteeing that 90% of the female population watches this show is Nigel Barker, dethroned photographer/judge from the CW’s Top Model.   When he was a part of the Top Model line-up, his segments were often the most authentic, his gentle, yet no-nonsense approach giving him the authority to host his own show.   It’s sort of like taking the best parts of Top Model and condensing them into a more digestible reality experience.   Oh yeah, and we get to look at him too.Like NBC’s “The Voice”, the three judging models on Oxygen’s latest brainchild are competing along with the contestants.   As the young ladies strut their stuff, Naomi, Coco, and Karolina fight to create teams they can mold into high-end models, praying that the contestants they like will select them as coaches.   This format has played heavily into the success of NBC’s hit show, and will likely do the same for the Oxygen network.The name “Naomi Campbell” evokes immediate images of airborne cell phones, court dates, and community service.    However, the name is also synonymous with the word “supermodel”, which is exactly why she’s perfect for this reality show.   Between her infamous temper tantrums and that legendary runway walk, we simply can’t keep our eyes off her.   View the list »

Premiering on Oxygen on Feb. 12 at 9pm is “The Face”, a competition that places its winner in the position of representing ULTA beauty stores. Having been unceremoniously fired from “America’s Next Top Model”, former judge Nigel Barker hosts this new reality confection. Supermodels Naomi Campbell, Coco Rocha, and Karolina Kurkova serve as judges on Barker’s esteemed panel. And based on the program’s sneak peeks, it seems like “The Face” may be a much juicier reality TV experience than ANTM. Here’s why…

  • The name “Naomi Campbell” evokes immediate images of airborne cell phones, court dates, and community service.    However, the name is also synonymous with the word “supermodel”, which is exactly why she’s perfect for this reality show.   Between her infamous temper tantrums and that legendary runway walk, we simply can’t keep our eyes off her.

  • When Naomi isn’t raging, the models will be.    Since we all know what happens when you shove a dozen girls into their own fancy digs, you can expect plenty of tears and lots bleeping.    Sob stories and backstabbing are part of the fabric of reality television.   And this show will probably be no different.   
  • It’s highly unlikely that we’ll see the models on “The Face” walking tightropes dressed as cheerleaders, making hip-hop music videos or competing in Toys-R-Us-inspired photo shoots.    ANTM’s initial format was decidedly less juvenile than its later cycles.   Judging from sneak peeks of “The Face”, the models can probably just concentrate on – well, modeling.
