1. Get organized.

Locating and collecting all the necessary receipts and statements may be the best way to clear the clutter from your office and uncover some valuable information. Reviewing statements will help to determine your financial picture.

2. Find deductions.

By looking at your tax deductions early in the year, such as making an IRA contribution, you gain the growth of that money at the beginning of the year instead of waiting till April 15th. Deductions may reduce the amount of taxes that you owe and allow you to save for retirement so you are really paying yourself.

3. Get a refund.

If you are one of those who has a tax refund coming, then the earlier that you file your tax return, the earlier that you can put that money to use. Consider the priority of using the refund to pay off debt and or built your savings account balance.

4. Make a donation to a charity.

This is helpful if you itemize your tax return and receipts for donations should be kept for each tax year.

5. Getting help.

If you start the process of tax filing and find you need help, then it allows time to seek out help from the experts. Tax advisers and tax preparers will have more time to assist you and give your financial situation their full attention, since they will be busy in April also.
