Celebrities have been instrumental in moving the movement toward healthy vegan eating forward. Some change to a plant-based diet for health reason, some for animal rights issues and many more for both. There are many more we would like to include like Alicia Silverstone and Carl Lewis, however we wanted to whittle the list down to just five. Enjoy.
Bill Clinton converted to a vegan diet for health reasons, mostly due to his heart. Although he cheats from time-to-time, he remains mostly vegan. In a 2013 interview for AARP magazine, Clinton said, "I've stopped eating meat, cheese, milk, even fish. No dairy at all. I've lost more than 20 pounds so far, aiming for about 30 before Chelsea's wedding. And I have so much more energy now! I feel great."
Actor Woody Harrelson is a longtime vegan, environmentalist and animal rights activist. In a 2012 interview for Esquire Magazine, Harrelson said, "I was on a bus and some girl sees me blowing my nose. I had acne all over my face, which I'd had for years and years. And she's like: 'Hey, you're lactose intolerant. If you quit dairy, all these symptoms you got will be gone in three days.' I was like twenty-four. And I was like, No way. But three days later: gone. So I started thinking to myself, Jeez, I've always been told nothing but 'Milk does a body good.' It's a fundamental thing. So from there it was like, What else are they lying about? I just started realizing: There are all these things we're brought up to believe that are just a total hoax, just bullshit advertising, you know?"
Singer-songwriter Usher converted to a plant-based diet for health reasons. Similar to Clinton, he wanted a healthy heart. I recently met Usher in Fort Lauderdale where he was attending a Tony Robbins event. During the event he walked on fire and I washed off his feet clearing them from the hot coals.
Mike Tyson: “Becoming a vegan gave me another opportunity to live a healthy life. I was so congested from all the drugs and bad cocaine, I could hardly breathe, [had] high blood pressure, [was] almost dying [and had] arthritis. And once I became a vegan all that stuff diminished,”
Actress Natalie Portman is a long time vegan for both animal rights and health reasons. Her 2012 wedding reception served all vegan food. Portman went to eating vegetarian during her pregnancy, however once her baby was born went back to eating a plant-based diet.
