If you're tired of Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, and Beyonce there are some outstanding singles so far in 2014 that everyone may not be aware of. From legendary tenured artists to the newcomers, the first few months of this year has stacked up pretty well. Check out the list to hear the 5 best.
The Pretty Reckless - "Heaven Knows"
Taylor Momsen-fronted The Pretty Reckless are salted to release their 2nd full length effort "Going to Hell" on March 18th, 2014. The 2nd single from that record has already been released and it's already creating a buzz. It could be because Momsen bares all in the video or it could be because it's simply a great rock song with a little anger, optimism, and a catchy hook. Hear "Heaven Knows" here.
U2 - "Invisible"
Has U2 ever had a flop? Well maybe "Pop Mart," but that's beside the point. "Invisible" debuted during the Super Bowl and was a free download for 24 hours after that. It's dynamic, anthematic, and everything we come to expect from a great band. Hear "Invisible" here.
Meg Myers - "Go"
If this song were released in 1995, it would already be at platinum status. Combine heavy guitar, a bottoming out rhythm section, and Myers' candor, sarcasm, and all out perfect delivery and what you get is a great single. Hear "Go" here.
311 - "Five of Everything"
OK, so it isn't "Down" or "Freak Out" from the early days, but 311 has aged particularly well. "Five of Everything" is the lead single from 311's record "Stereolithic," which released on March 11th, 2014 (3/11). How could anything be not good when Chad Sexton is drumming on the track? Here "Five of Everything" here.
Chuck Ragan - "Non-Typical"
Chuck Ragan's 'i just smoked a carton of Camels' voice has been mesmerizing audiences for many years going back to his days with Hot Water Music in the 1990s. His new record, "Til' Midnight" is due out on March 25th, 2014. It's going to be hard to follow up his previous effort "Covering Ground," but hearing this lead single I think it can be done. See you at the Stone Pony Chuck! Hear "Non-Typical" here.
