So you've made the leap to becoming a transit rider, or are just a junkie for transportation information in Atlanta. Here are the top five Twitter feeds to follow to stay in the know.
MARTA's official Twitter account, @MARTASERVICE is the feed to follow for updates on service, elevator outages and the latest YouTube videos, including the new station tour series. Note that the MARTAalerts account is not official and more or a less a copy of this feed, though many people end up following it inadvertently.
For MARTA directions, tips and adventures, check out @MARTAGuide. The account provides the latest Atlanta event information, service alerts, transit news and articles. Don't miss the top transit-friendly events for each month.
While not exclusively about MARTA, the official Atlanta Regional Commission Twitter account @AtlantaRegional provides an excellent feed of content on planning and transportation around the metro area. You'll get all the latest news on urban studies, pedestrians, transit and biking.
The big man on the MARTA campus, CEO Keith Parker, has a Twitter feed you can follow for updates straight from headquarters. Parker is a regular MARTA rider and successfully took the transit agency out of the red and into surplus funds for 2014, which resulted in increased train frequency during peak hours.
Humor always goes a long way, and if you're familiar with MARTA, you might get a few chuckles from @FakeMARTA. The account's tweets address passengers, "Attn: MARTA customers", and highlight some of the less-than-perfect situations on transit.
