Marge is talking to Jared. Marge is a Christian, Jared is not. Marge is concerned about Jared's salvation so she starts to witness to him. Out come words like, “born again,” and “washed in the blood of the lamb.” Jared, confused by the Marge's speech walks away.
Paul says in 1 Corinthians 14:9, “...if with your tongue you utter speech that is not intelligible, how will anyone know what is said? For you will be speaking into the air.” While this verse is primarily about the spiritual gift of speaking in tongues, it is also good advice to every Christian who seeks to witness to others. Using Christian speak when witnessing to most non-Christians is useless because the words do not make sense to them.
A couple of chapters back Paul says in,1 Corinthians 2:14, “The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God....and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.”
Unless a heart is prepared by God to accept the Word the person is not likely to understand the message. This is not to say Christians should not witness, on the contrary. Christians are called to witness, but like farmers during planting season need to pick just the right time to plant the seeds.
Remember, when it comes to witnessing to the, “natural” or “worldly” person actions speak more loudly then any words.
