5 haunted castles in Ireland

Clonony Castle  was built in 1500, it has two of Anne Boleyn's cousins buried there. The castle had been built by the MacCouglan clan and once Henry VIII got the castle he gave it to Thomas Boleyn for the hand in marriage to Anne. But that's not the only interesting thing about this castle, the ghost part of it, is intriguing. Many have reported seeing a tall and thin ghostly man.The ghostly man is always seen by motorists while they pass the castle. The castle stands at the head of Belfast Lough and has seen a lot of history during it's time. But it's not just a historical place but a haunted place.Some say that the castle is haunted by a young solider known by the name of Buttoncap, who lived in the 16th century. Nobody knows exactly how it happened but he died in a violent matter. Ireland is a place steeped in beauty and history. Ireland has some historical castles and some of those castles are haunted with restless spirits and other strange phenomenal. One place in particular that is one of the most haunted castles of Ireland is, Leap Castle. Why do castles make the perfect haunting places? Horror movie fans can say that many horror films happen in creepy castles but not all the time either, the film Poltergeist comes to mind but back to castles, they make good horror and ghost stories because of the structure of them and the history. The atmosphere of a castle gives a very spooky feel. So reading about ghosts in castles is just naturally creepy but reading ghosts in a suburban home is also pretty scary too. Just there is something about a castle that is both impressive and scary. But these stories that are shared are supposedly true, keep that mind!

  • Huntington Castle was built by the first Lord Esmonde. The spirit of Bishop Leslie of Limerick has been staying there since he first visited the castle back in the 18th century. Many guests have seen his face staring at them while they were trying to sleep.Barbara St. Lege who loved the castle so much has been staying in ghostly form since her death in 1870. The spirit of the wife of Lord Esmonde has been seen sobbing and combining her hair.A solider from the 16th century haunts the castle and people have reported seeing monks in the Yew Walk. So Huntington Castle has it's own share of spirits.
