With so many lip balms available to us when visiting a drugstore, sometimes it's difficult to choose one that might be best for us. Far too often people immediately reach for popular brands that contain carcinogenic and synthetic ingredients. The lips don't need synthetic chemicals to be protected and moisturized. Really, all one needs is raw shea butter or cocoa butter, possibly mixed with raw coconut oil or olive oil to add anti-inflammatory properties to the mix. But hey - most of us don't necessarily have the time to create our own lip balms, and we want a ready-made product that is not mucky, is easy to apply, and will save our lips from painful chapping. There are plenty of natural cosmetic brands that have done the work for us to create safe, natural lip balms that, in fact, work better than synthetic chemical-rich balms. There is a huge movement, thanks to websites like The Environmental Working Group (http://www.ewg.org/skindeep/), to eliminate dangerous substances from our household cosmetics and other products. If you are new to researching toxicity and carcinogens in your household products, one of the first cosmetic products to be weary of, whilst making a purchase, is lip balm and lipstick. We basically eat our lip products, so it's essential to know what you are ingesting, and to be aware of the risk factors. The next time you buy lip balm, which is such a popular cosmetic product, why not try one of the lip balms listed below.
