The funky chunky sandals of the ‘90s are back and bigger than ever thanks to a resurgence of women who are done with “sacrificing comfort for style,” according to a Good Morning America segment that indicated an increasing number of shoe-lovers are “ditching their stately stilettos for foot-friendly flats of the open-toe variety.”
In an interview with Good Morning America, Lucky Magazine Editor-in-Chief Eva Chen noted openly that many fashionistas may first think of these shoes as drab, hippie and even downright ugly, but pointed out that these unconventionally chic sandals top the must-have list for summer 2014.
Trendera CEO Jane Buckingham credited women finally putting their foot down on uncomfortable footwear and admitting that it’s not always feasible—or comfortable—to wear the perfect outfit from head to toe.
“Women in particular are saying ‘We can’t do it all. We can’t be perfect. So we might have a stylish outfit, but you know what: We’re going to wear comfortable shoes.’”
If you’re ready to put your best foot forward in these so-called ugly sandals, don’t skimp on Chen’s absolute must for rocking these chunky, clunky sandals: a perfectly painted pedicure.
“You should always have a beautiful pedicure when you wear shoes like this.”
So polish those piggies and kick up your heels in style in five of the funkiest, chunkiest sandals for summer 2014.
