The Olympic Games are the biggest sporting event in the world. Since their formation in Ancient Greece, the Olympic Games have become synonymous with the highest level of achievement on the part of athletes. Even getting to the Olympic Games takes extreme dedication and hard work—actually winning a medal at the event is a dream come true.
The Olympics include a wide variety of sports. There are both summer and winter Olympic Games but there are far more events in the summer Olympics than the winter Olympics. Each Olympic Game is held every four years—meaning that there is actually an Olympic Games held every two years (one being the winter and the other being the summer). The Olympic Games are a global event and so they are held in a different country every time. The Olympic Games have their own distinct flag: five rings intertwined on a white background. The rings are black, red, yellow, green and blue since one of those colors appears on every flag in the world.
Athletes who aim to get to the Olympics start training years in advance. The next summer Olympics will be held in Brazil in 2016 and below are a list of five sports that you will see during that time.
