The local craft beer scene has turned from a veritable ghost town into a thriving community of both mad scientist-y brewing companies and consumers waiting to try the next big thing. Lots of new and exciting niche breweries have been popping up over the past few years, specifically in Los Angeles. This list is in celebration of one of the rock stars of the craft beer world, the IPA, and the breweries that produce it.
To provide a little background for you, an IPA (India pale ale) is a heavily hopped beer that usually exhibits tart, sometimes bitter flavor as it hits the palate. It usually leaves an after taste of something sweet, malty, or citrus, depending on the beverage you consume. The advent of the IPA started out of necessity. Brewers used this as a way to ship beer long distances (From England to India, hense the name IPA) and avoid spoilage.
With a large captive audience, the IPA has been experiencing something of a revival in the US. California, in particular, features some of the best IPA's that the world has to offer.
On to the list now. Shall we?
