The last year was ripe for speculative fiction in our lives, from books to movies to hardware. Let’s take a look at how spec fic permeated the movie market in 2013.

And that’s just the top ten.

Speculative fiction (includes science fiction and fantasy and horror, etc) permeates the below top ten as well, like The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug at #11, Thor: The Dark World which came in at 12, World War Z at #13. All according to Boxofficemojo.com, 2013 Domestic Grosses.

Spec fic even invaded social media. As you'll see in the charts provided, Facebook and Twitter are where it's at when it comes to film promotion.

The top 10 grossing Sci-Fi titles in the US according to IMDB have two 2013 movies on the list already: Iron Man 3 and Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

This coming year will most likely continue the trend in science fiction/fantasy movies, both adult and animated, and looks to be a veritable cornucopia for speculative fiction fans.
