Here are some photos of the San Francisco Giants 2012 World Series victory over the Detroit Tigers...the Tigers and the Giants both have roots in Richmond, Virginia. Justin Verlander went to high school and college in the area and the Giants have a Double A farm team in town: of course that's the Richmond Flying Squirrels. Justin Verlander went to nearby Manakin-Sabot high school and then to Old Dominion University: he's now perhaps the most dominant pitcher in the American League.
The Giants won their second championship in three years: it coincided with the Flying Squirrels coming to Richmond in 2010; in 2010 the Giants won their first World Series championship since moving to the West coast a LONG time ago...they've now won two out of the last three years so it's starting to look like a trend! The Flying Squirrels had some of the best pitchers in Double A in 2012 so maybe the Giants can keep this going.
Last year the Richmond Flying Squirrels had a day in which they celebrated Justin Verlander...I'll show you a few photos from the 2012 World Series to show you him on the big stage. The Giants beat the Tigers four games to none in the 2012 World Series so there's quite a few highlights to peruse of uniforms you'll see Flying Squirrels wearing soon...
