18th annual Concours about speed & elegance

 A fleet of Cadillac's rare Motorama and Detroit Auto Show Concept Cars will be on display at this yea’s Concours. Created under the supervision of GM's legendary styling chief, Harley Earl, the Cadillac Concept cars of the 1950s were the stars of GM's Motorama shows. Blood ancestors of the contemporary Cadillac Cien and Cadillac Sixteen Concept Cars of the 21st century, unlike many show cars, Cadillac's Motorama Concept Cars showcased the future in their lines, options, trim and colors.  The prototype of the Cadillac Coupe de Ville will be on exhibit at this year’s Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance for the first time in 64 years. Powered by a new 331 cubic inch engine –GM's first overhead valve V-8 – and mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission, the prototype took two months and $30,000 to build in 1949. The new de Ville featured GM's first one-piece curved windshield and a 133-inch wheelbase, seven inches longer than Cadillac's production coupes.  The 18th annual Concours celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Porsche 911.   •  Fabio Taglioni's first design was a small masterpiece – the 100cc Gran Sport, nicknamed "Marianna"(for the Madonna), the first Ducati motorcycle. Racer Giovanni Degli Anotoni won the 1955 Motogiro d'Italia on a "Marianna," and put Ducati on the map. The 18th Concours features an exclusive collection of the Italian thoroughbreds. Chronicling 50nyears of Ducati design, the display includes the seminal "Cucciolo, " the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum's 1979 Hailwood Isle of Man racer, famous motorcycle writer Vicki Smith's 1997 Ducati 916SPS and more. 
  •   Ford's legendary GT40 was created in 1963, as much an instrument of industrial revenge as it was a racing car and marketing tool. In 1962 Henry Ford II, grandson of the company's famous founder and chairman of the world's second-largest automaker, tried to buy Ferrari. When the deal fell through, Ford took it personally. The result was the Ford GT40.Early in 1965, the 200-mph GT40 brought home its first world championship at the 2000 Km Daytona Continental. On June 18, 1966 a Ford GT40 MKII driven by New Zealanders Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon led a three-car Ford sweep at LeMans, shutting out Ferrari and making the GT40 the world's most famous, important and marketable sports car.
