While it's certainly fun to brush off creepy classics like Edgar Allan Poe's "The Raven" and Washington Irving's "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" at Halloween time, there are also some new and recently-released YA novels that make for great spooky seasonal reads.
YA authors are, frankly, quite good at scaring the pants off their readers -- from classic young reader horror master R.L. Stine, to best-selling YA queens like Kami Garcia and Holly Black, to debut authors like April Genevieve Tucholke.
The Young Adult book shelves are riddled with perfectly spooktacular reads. Take, for example, the newly released -- and instant bestseller -- Unbreakable from Garcia, who is the coauthor of the Beautiful Creatures series. She pairs all the winning combinations of a paranormal YA novel with creeptastic haunted locations and a team of teenage ghosthunters.
Another seasonal delight is The Dark Between by Sonia Gensler, which offers an historical twist with her novel set during the height of the Spiritualist Movement.
