Is there a difference between an independent person and a leader? They share similar qualities. How do you identify the leaders in your youth group? It's not enough anymore to pick the most loud and outspoken person. A lot of the time that just means they're just loud and talk too much. A local study has been conducted on a small group of youth in the Wichita area. Unwilling to disclose names, there are independents in the group that we don't often see that would be considered loners. She doesn't mimic the popular trends of her peers, she knows how to handle spotlight, but will quietly contribute to the group with extremely creative ideas. Another young man is consistently present and functions only where he is needed. He is exact and only communicates the facts. Both models have the potential to become great leaders. It looks like independents have the ability to become leaders. The next step is to italicize and bold these qualities. Check out the list below and see what kind of leader you are.
