Dakota Roche is a BMX pro, X-Games medal winner and Huntington Beach legend. This year, Dak traded in the bowl for the judge's box, putting his BMX knowledge to good use by judging the Van Doren BMX Invitational.

Not only did Vans introduce us to the sickest bowl competition in years, they also brought back Women's Vert and some of the biggest names in skating today such as SoCal's Curren Caples.

Huntington Beach hometown hero Brett Simpson, Julian Wilson and 11-time World Champion Kelly Slater are just a few past winners who you can see at the 2013 Vans US Open of Surfing.

The US Open of Surfing hosted the largest free concert stage of the summer and featured performances by Modest Mouse, The Faint and Twin Shadow – Plus Huntington Beach native, Matt Costa and emerging artist, FMLYBND.

From knowledgeable surf gurus to clueless pre-teens, there's something for everyone at the US Open and most everyone is pretty chill. Hey, it is Huntington after all!
#8 Rad Vendors
The usual suspects were in force – Red Bull, Tilly's, Pacifico. But appearances by Taylor Guitar, Fiat, and Sector 9 (to name a few) made the US Open a unique shopping and information spectacle.

Entertaining announcers, JumboTron replays, and continual social media feeds, helped make the 2013 Vans US Open of Surfing one of the best fan-friendly events of the summer!

Oh sure, every surf contest has their juniors, but the US Open really has juniors. These kids are like junior Juniors. they're like toddlers on water! Pay attention to O.C. locals 13-year old Meah Collins and 15-year old Kanoa Igarashi – they're the future of pro surfing!
