Liar liar pants on fire. Every kid who has attended school in the United States has heard that saying at least once and some even more than once. While growing up if you lied you may have been on the receiving end of punishment due to lying. In the 1950s and 60s it was common practice for parents to wash their kids’ mouth out with soap for lying.
Apparently being told by an adult not to lie as a child is a typical do-as-I-say-and-not-as-I-do apothegm that only applies to the 21 and under crowd.
It has long been established that politicians lie. They lie to get into office and they lie to stay in office. It’s amazing how many people still don’t accept this fact as a given and go into shock when they realize they’ve been had.
People generally seem to be okay with politicians lying to them because they keep voting for anyone who tells them what they want to hear especially around campaign time. It’s not that these people are dumb, but they desperately need to believe in the politicians.
There are some lies that people are okay with. If a store, for example, brags about a large sale you find that although the sale is quite large there’s nothing you really want to buy. People are pretty much okay with lies celebrities tell. No one believes that Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones are just taking a break; that they’ll eventually get back together or when a celebrity will say they’ve been shy ever since they were a child. Shy people tend to avoid the limelight. Everyone also just accepts the fact that the Kardashians are a bunch of liars.
There are lies that the American public are told almost on a daily basis and it’s just not from the government or the politicians, but from mainstream media. Although the list of lies that the public are expected to swallow could be in the hundreds of thousands here are 10 of them.
