10 Differences between the Walking Dead TV Show and the Graphic Novel

The Walking Dead TV Show and the Comic have many differences.
The Walking Dead TV Show and the Comic have many differences. The Walking Dead Compendium - Graphic Novel

In 1936, Boris Karloff and Marguerite Churchill starred in the first film incarnation of the Walking Dead. It was the tale of a man unjustly executed and brought back to life by a scientist. Not quite the plot line your used to with AMC's reincarnation of the Walking Dead.

AMC's version is based upon Robert Kirkman and crew's graphic novels called the Walking Dead which were first issued in 2003. The TV show stays pretty close to the graphic novel but there are some differences.

Here are a few:

#1 Daryl Dixon - Daryl Who?

"If Daryl Dies we riot" isn't really any issue for the comic book fans because he's not in it! That's right this staple character from AMC's TV show isn't in the comic. It's hard to imagine the show without him!

Not quite as popular as his on screen bro Meryl Dixon was also not featured in the comic. Although he went out like a hero there have been no reported riots in his honor!

In AMC's TV Show The Walking Dead it was Rick Grimes who put down the Shane Walsh walker but in the comic Carl had the pleasure of taking out Shane.

#4 Sofia Peletler - Is she in the barn or not?

In the comic Carrol's daughter Sofia never got lost in the woods. She not only made it through the early abuse by her father, she also survived the herd of walkers that took the farm. In the comic she makes it all the way to the prison to find young love with Carl Grimes. On the show she lasted little more then a season but unfortunately her death seemed to tighten up many integral plot points.

In AMC's TV version our crew was split at the end of season 2. Not so in the comic. Everyone of the farm house crew with the exception of Otis makes it to the prison.

#6 Hershel Greene - Beth's Fate

Currently on AMC's TV show we don't know the fate of Beth, Hershel Greene's daughter. Last we saw a very distraught Daryl was on foot chasing a car that we suspect kidnapped Beth. Unfortunately she doesn't make it out of the prison in the comic.

#7 Lori Grimes - Argghhh, She What?

#7 Lori Grimes - Argghhh, She What?

In the comic Lori Grimes unfortunately made it all the way to the Governor's final face off with our heros. Many are thankful that AMC took Lori out shortly after reaching the prison.

In the comic Tyreese has a teenage daughter named Julie. Julie dies at the hands of her boyfriend in a botched mutual suicide attempt. In AMC's TV show we don't have a daughter but we do however have Tyreese's sister Sasha.

#9 Carl Grimes - Spoilers from epeisode 414

One of the most powerful moments of the Walking Dead TV Series was undoubtedly Carol executing Lizzie. This didn't happen in the comic because not only was Carol not the shooter in the scenario but Lizzie was also a boy. The sister and sister duo of Lizzie and Mika is actually Ben and Billy in the comic. Carl is the shooter hammering home the re-occurring theme in the comic that Carl is a hardened murderer.

#10 Rick Grimes - Governor cuts off his.....

In AMC's TV version of the show our fearless sometimes leader Rick Grimes has managed to hang onto his hand. In the comic he loses it to the governor shortly after Rick and crew first visit Woodbury.
