This is the third in a multi-part series on directing your life journey.
Four things I ‘promise' to share with you…here, right now: how to remove the obstruction/roadblock of fear; how you can start using this tomorrow; third…why me…why am I the one to teach this? And fourth…a little story about a large group.
There is a process…a structure and strategy. I developed it, used it, achieved with it. Made it work for me…I can make it work for you.
An additional promise…I'm not going to run around the stage waving my arms…ask you to stand up, get all excited and shout "today is the first day of the rest of your life?" Most of you already know that it is. I'm asking you to hear me out the next few minutes and think. Tomorrow is when I want you to get excited…and start shouting!!...when you realize…this can work.
To start with, all of us need motivation…a catalyst that makes us excited about something new. Here's something to think about. My social behavioral studies have shown me that there are only two great motivating factors in life…in the whole Universe: love and fear. Some choose to use the terms ‘inspiration' and ‘desperation'…it's still love and fear. True, they exist in varying degrees…but there are only two reasons anyone does anything. And fear can direct you toward good just as much as love…imagine that.
Going back to Michael Jordan…his competitive fire made him love winning. Outside of his family and friends, I'm not sure if he loved anything more than winning. Was he afraid…probably. But what was he really afraid of? In one of his (books, interviews, etc.), Michael said, "I can accept failure, but I can't accept not trying." He was afraid of not doing everything he could in every situation.
