Conservative writers see surge in profits

Much of the country is anxious and ill-at-ease over the current state of the nation. Many see problems in the healthcare system, the economy, and the wane of personal freedoms that they once thought would never be threatened. For many, the nervous feelings are remedied by reading like-minded books or listening to conservative talk radio. And this means cash in the pockets of some conservatives.

Despite the economy leading to a decline in sales everywhere, Mark Levin’s book, “Liberty and Tyranny: A Conservative Manifesto” has sold around 800,000 copies since it was published earlier this year and was on the New York Times bestsellers list for 13 weeks. He also hosts a talk radio show that is listened to by 5 million people each day. Levin acknowledges that fear of President Barack Obama and the Democratic filibuster-proof majority’s policies thus far have boosted his income and told POLITICO.com, “I’m seeing a lot of people, conservatives and other people, who are starting to get extremely concerned that permanent damage can be done or is being done to their country.”

Conservative blogger and speaker Michelle Malkin will be publishing her new book, “Culture of Corruption: Obama and his team of Tax Cheats, Crooks, and Cronies” in July of this year and is expected to do well. Malkin owns michellemalkin.com and co-founded hotair.com, both of which are doing well in political blogosphere.
Glenn Beck’s book “Common Sense: The Case Against an Out of Control Government”, “Liberty and Tyranny: A Conservative Manifesto” are currently the number one and number two books sold on Amazon.com, with Dick Morris’s book “Catastrophe: How Obama, Congress and the Special Interests Are Transforming a Slump Into a Crash, Freedom into Socialism, and a Disaster Into a Catastrophe… and How to Fight Back” coming in at number four. This makes the majority of the books currently sold on Amazon.com’s top five list authored by conservative political pundits. In comparison, Richard Wolfe’s book “Renegade: The Making of a President” which praises Obama is in eighth place.
Fox News, the cable news channel that which those around President Obama do not speak its name, is doing astronomically well. Of the top ten most watched cable news shows Fox News hosts every one. Popular hosts like Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity, and Glenn Beck have fueled this growth.
Many people that oppose Barack Obama’s ideology do not necessarily oppose Barack Obama, and many that oppose his ideology are not conservative, but if the left ever wanted an easier way to drive those moderate liberals or independents away it is with simplicity that they can do so by passing unpopular legislation that allows personal freedoms to be threatened and the economy to crumble. While the Democrats may not care about the opposing voice right now, the conservatives will be more than happy to shelter them until the opposition does become a fighting voice at election time. Listening to those voices on talk radio and Fox News, instead of silencing them, would be in the best interest of the Democratic Party and the American people in general.
