Yeah, but is Kelly Clarkson a libertarian?

Commentary from the liberterrain…

It seemed like a natural for a feature called Dallas Libertarian Examiner when singer/songwriter and American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson endorsed Ron Paul as her choice for the GOP presidential nomination.

It has that local hook, "Dallas," and that target topic, "libertarian" since Clarkson grew up in the greater Dallas area, specifically in Burleson, south of Ft. Worth, while it's almost mandatory for mainstream media minions to tag Paul as "libertarian-leaning."

As the now news-worn story goes, Last week Clarkson tweeted her famous/infamous "I love Ron Paul" endorsement that ended with the almost obligatory negatory, "Too bad he probably won't" win.

All of which, unsurprisingly, generated as much hazing as it did praising.

One Clarkson reaction to the negative outpouring was, "Man my eyes have been opened to so much hate tonight" while Ron Paul responded with, "Does anyone know the name Kelly Clarkson?"

But the sub story around these parts is this: Is Kelly Clarkson a libertarian?"

While her name coupled with "libertarian" draws mega hits throughout Google Land it seems to be others, not Clarkson herself, who are pinning the libertarian label on her.

Because of her spike in her album sales (shooting up by 192%, or 200% or 442% or 1,000% or 1,350% depending on which source you read and when you read it) CNNMoney offered "A word of advice to prospective American Idol contestants: vote libertarian."

One yahoo at Yahoo philosophized, "She's an ugly, libertarian cow."

Libertarianism Today author Jacob Huebert doesn't care what Clarkson thinks politically but likes the fact that her endorsement will help spread Ron Paul's libertarian message.

The deep thinkers at Gothamist consider it unsurprising that "Clarkson would align herself with Paul's libertarian views" because, among other sure-fire telltale signs that she's a "libertarian" (this isn't labeled satire): she has a ranch in Texas, owns nine guns, sleeps with a Colt .45, and loves Guns 'N' Roses! (Their exclamation point).

A commentary in the University of Maryland, Baltimore County website, playing off her hit song title, asks the question whether Clarkson is "Miss Independent or Miss Libertarian?" and then fails to answer it.

A Kelly Clarkson Fan Club posting asks, "Is Kelly Clarkson libertarian?" and proceeds not to answer.

Without picking through every blog post and tweet on Clarkson's official website there seems to be no mention of her libertarianism.

So nobody knows. But it's been fun.
