A "census enumerator" (nose counter)
checks data on a hand-held computer, complete
with global positioning system capabilities. Why?
All a legitimate enumerator needs is a calculator.

Commentary from the liberterrain...
It seems that virtually every newspaper in America is a finger puppet of the Census Bureau, blindly playing the public do-gooder role by patting their little readers on their little heads and telling them to be good little sheep and eagerly spill their guts to the temporarily government-badged snoopers.
Answering the "10 simple questions in 10 minutes" will benefit you and your community, they tell everyone.
"At stake is a share of the $400 billion distributed annually throughout the nation," said the Sacramento Bee.
"Many health, social service, transportation and housing programs receive federal funding that is based directly or indirectly on formulas that rely on census population data," said the Juneau Empire.
"Texas could gain between three and five congressional seats," said the Dallas Morning News on Saturday, as well as "a bigger slice of federal resources and funds."
But few sum it up better than Albuquerque Libertarian Examiner Kent McManigal:
"The excuses used to justify the census are all statist excuses. Like saying they need to know how many children they will be locking up in the indoctrination centers in the coming decade. Like wanting to know how much effort the wealth redistribution schemes will be in the next ten years; where the money will be stolen from and where the vote-buying bribes will be concentrated. Or, so they will know how to gerrymander districts to manipulate the vote for those who still participate in that rigged game."
Yesterday, the Edmond (Oklahoma) Sun even performed the public service of warning the unwary that "con artists may pose as census workers" in an attempt at identity theft.
But the US census is itself a con. The "controlling authority," the US Constitution, authorizes the government to do no more than enumerate the country's population.
Merriam-Webster Online: "Enumerate 1: to ascertain the number of: count."
So how exactly do the "10 simple questions in 10 minutes" about your name, gender, age, race, ethnicity, relationship, and whether you rent or own qualify as "counting?"
If all these good-citizen civic-minded newspapers are so intent on performing a public service to keep us all informed, why won't they tell us the truth about the Constitution and the census?
Back in Dallas, "Local Protestant groups have designated Feb. 14 as 'Loving Your Community' Day" to promote the census.
They could just as well call it "Loving the stolen loot day."

It isn't enough to tell them "no." Do NOT let them into your home or even onto your property if you can prevent it. There is NOTHING to stop them from "answering" those questions for you - even if they have to make up fairy tales.
I suspect they will be paid on the basis of how much information they collect. And, if they are good little socialists, and already know you have guns, homeschool or any little other anti-social "facts" about you, they might be in a position to do you great harm.
This isn't some game, and don't even think about giving cute false answers. Don't talk to them at all.
Nice article, but question...since there are a lot of laws now, way more than the 1700's, and since we only counted 'free persons' and 3/5 of the remaining (I suppose that meant women, children, etc., etc..) wouldn't it be acceptable to now ask for age and race since there are a lot of seniors expecting checks, and minorities who might be concerned with their rights compared to others? I don't think Congress needs to know if I'm married or not, or if I own a house or not, because how is that tied to the amount of representation (and I use that word loosely) I get in Congress?
The cost of not complying at all is $100 if they accuse you and convict you. (Demand a jury trial, even if they pretend it is a civil case, as it is more than $20.) The cost of giving false answers is much higher, and conspiring to create false results on demographics can be much higher still. Don't answer the door.
Why are people always answering the door when the cops or the census want in? Don't answer the door, don't let them in, don't say a word. They'll go away.
Remember King David. He enumerated the Israelites. God was upset by this action. God made 20,000 Israelites die to punish David for this wrong thing he did. It would be rational to refuse to answer the door or respond to the census on religious grounds.
If the Feds want to do more than just enumerate they must amend the Constitution since any laws they write are still inferior to the Constitution. I've also been playing with the idea of "taking the Fifth" if I am trapped by a census-taker or actually arrested and charged and tried. We supposedly still have the right of non self incrimination. Anyone have any ideas on that?
I have refused to return the census forms received in the mail for the last 3 censuses. I was a little nervous about getting fined, but I never heard a thing. Last time (year 2000), a census worker did come to my door. I told him how many adults and minors lived in our home and told him I would not provide any more info. He nodded and left quietly. In the case of the census, civil disobedience is easy.
Examiner Kent McManigal:
"Like saying they need to know how many children they will be locking up in the indoctrination centers in the coming decade."
After that line, nothing Examiner Kent McManigal writes is worth reading...The quote shows he's a raving loon...
I can't believe how paranoid most of you are regarding the census...You've been listening to Michele Bachmann to much, she'll rot your brain...
"10 simple questions in 10 minutes" about your name, gender, age, race, ethnicity, relationship, and whether you rent or own"
How in the world does giving information like those 10 questions endanger your liberty or impede on your civil rights, lets be honest now, this is information that the government could data mine on most everyone...
Or how about this, our gov says there are between 12 and 20 million illegal aliens here, don't you want to get a better estimate, I do...
There are legitimate reasons for doing the census such a the reasons listed in the story
I am not going to answer all those questions and I will answer the door and ask them to get off my property. Once I send in the form I have complied with the law and they can not make me answer any more questions. One worker told me that if they can get a answer they will ask the questions to the house next door so tell your neighbor's not to answer the questions for you.
To Dave and Bob not having any concern for the questions beyond how many people live here. The answers to those other questions directly led to the "relocation" of American citizens with Japanese decent to the wonderful interment/concentration camps during WWII. Not to mention the confiscation of their property. Anything you say can and will be used against you. Just answer the 1st two questions.
who the hell said we have to answer the door.screw the census.screw the police state.resist tyranny.or be controlled by it!
