The results are in and the numbers are outstanding! The Haiti telethon money raised is a just over a whopping 9.4 million dollars reported Newsgone! The CBC has reported that the total amount of money that was raised for the disastrous Haiti earthquake is a total of 16 million..and counting. Just how much money did Hope for Haiti raise? We should know once all of the lines have closed and donations are counted.

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced that he would match dollar for dollar the amount raised, courtesy of the Canadian government. The money is still rolling in as lines have still been left open and the broadcast is reported to be one of the most widely distributed prime-time televised benefits in history. It appeared simultaneously on more than 25 networks — including CNN, in which Anderson Cooper reported live from Haiti while the event was being broadcast.

Is this enough to help Haiti now? Could the U.S. Government have done better?

The city was once at a population of two million people. Estimates show that at least 100,000 people have died and the numbers are still rolling in. The World Can't Wait hit the needle right on the head when it stated that the U.S. Government could have done better, "Thousands who in fact could have been saved died needlessly because rich and powerful countries which do have the resources to rescue people—most especially the United States—failed to provide such aid in the immediate aftermath of the earthquake. In fact, the survivors who against all odds were rescued from the rubble—only underscores how many more people could have in fact been saved—but instead died—because the U.S. did not do everything possible to get rescue teams and equipment to Haiti right away. This amounts to nothing less than mass murder."

Yes, those of us know the truth that if the people that make the most money in the world didn't contribute (celebrities) then people would be looking at them VERY crazy. I mean, they have all of that money from people in the U.S. supporting them and they can't send a few 1,000. Come on!

    I just read the article.
While I agree that we needed to get to Haiti more quickly and we should donate more than 100 million dollars; I don't see how that is tantamount to mass murder.
A better analogy would be accusing us of gross negligence!!

I do agree, we should have moved faster. Taiwan, Iceland, Uk were there the next day, where were we?

AB you're right, I don't agree with the mass murder bit either. I mean that part is crazy. Your comment is right on target and I feel the same.

We are condemned and hated by everyone. Yet when something goes wrong as in this tragedy it's the US who must save the day. You are so ignorant for saying such things. We have reacted pretty darn quick, I do believe, and many others also. Haiti will be better in the long run for what WE as a nation do for them. To say our gov't has done a good job is grossly irresponsible. You should be ashamed

We did not have to do anything! Where was the world when Katrina came ashore. I'm not sure you realize we did not know the quake was coming. It takes a day or 2 to put together a relief package for the largest disaster since the little wave hit a couple if years back. There was no place to land planes, no power, no roads and the port was damaged si badly a barge could not get in. Plus it's not just down the street.
Just curious smart person, how would you have handled the situation? You folks bitch but have no plan of your own. Let's hear it so maybe Obama will make you disaster czar. Don't be shy, let's hear your plan to get there more quickly.

Certainly when such a tragedy happends, everyone gets involved. I agree probably many died from dehydration under the ruins in the first 24 hours after the earthquake, but I just don't get it where is America to blame here. To insinuate that US citizens are "mass killers" or even to say that other countries should have done more is absurd. People are desperate but I think an incredible amount of help is given. More than any other nation in the world was given since the end of WWII. More than after the terrible tsunami. Lets not forget that we are talking about an area lacking streets to drive on, generally laking know-how, infrastructure, logistics. It's amazing how US, Russia, France, everybody mobilized enormous logistics to build everything back. It's appropriate to respect this effort, and to add our help, not criticism. Maybe help buid a house, donate powder milk, everything is needed there

Lol. 9Million? Even our Dutch Haiti telethon raised 42 Million Euro`s and it was announced the same evening! Not after many days of counting late donations. Also it was doubled by our Government to 84 Million and distributed immediately to aid organisations working in Haiti. 9 Million is just a shameful joke.
