LGBT colors of pride
The New York State Senate defeated a bill on Wednesday which would have allowed gay marriage in the state. The bill which was supported by Governor David Paterson had passed the Assembly and had reached the floor of the Senate for debate. During the 3-hour debate in which 19 state senators spoke only one speaker voiced an opinion against the bill.
When the vote was tallied, the bill was defeated resoundingly by a margin of 38 to 24. The back hall lobbying was said to have been fierce by Evangelicals, Jews and Catholics against and gay rights activists for the measure. All 30 Republican senators and 8 Democratic senators voted against the bill.
“It’s as sad a day as I’ve had since I joined public service,” said Paterson on the floor of the Senate after the vote. Citing the lack of fortitude by senators who face election in 2010, he added, “We have to make the climate safer for people who were sitting in this chamber who believe in gay marriage but didn’t have the intestinal fortitude to vote for it.”
It is unlikely that the bill will re-emerge in the New York State legislature anytime soon.
The Marist College polling group released their latest poll results on the issue on Wednesday and it showed that 51 percent of New Yorkers back gay marriage and 42 percent of the state’s population are against it. Among Democrats the poll showed that 62 percent of New York Democrats are for and 62 percent of Republicans in the state are against gay marriage.
Obviously the poll didn’t take legislators into account who are still running scared from what happened to moderate Republican candidate Dede Scozzafava in the NY-23rd special election a month ago when she was forced to drop out of the race by high-profile conservative outside agitators. One might say the gay marriage bill was Scozzfava’d to defeat.
Conservatives, evangelicals and other so-called religious leaders will continue to defeat gay rights and gay marriage bills as long as voters continue to buy into the homophobic hate they claim their hateful God supports. Pulpit politics is one of the most dangerous forms of politics we face today, and high profile gay-haters like Pastors Rick Warren and Fred Phelps, the "GOD HATES FAGS" lunatic will not stop until they see the light, and succeed in implementing a Christian Theocracy not unlike the oppressive Islamic states they consider so evil.

Following the idiotic logic on this thread: gay people who have strong feelings FOR gay marriage are in reality closeted heterosexuals, since those who have strong feeling against gay marriage are supposedly closet cases, too. <roll eyes>.

Whenever there's a setback like this I just remind myself that it is the older generations who care so much about the issue. As they die off and today's under 40 crowd comes in to power gay marriage and rights will begin to take stronger hold in this country.

Those who will ignore the scriptures that condemn homosexuality, yet will brazenly use other scriptures for their purposes show that they are of the pick-and-choose to fit their agenda mentality. Real Christians believe the whole word of God. Liberals pick the scriptures that suit them, yet could care less about the Bible 99.9% of the time.
Another example of how liberals operate: they will twist Jesus' words to promote FORCED socialism. Jesus never condoned forced socialism. If people willingly wanted to share most of what they have with others, that is one thing. Forced socialism is quite another.
Liberals who ignore the scriptues when those scriptures talk about the abomination known as homosexuality show that they aren't real Christians.

if you believe the WHOLE WORD OF GOD, then it doesn't matter where someone "picks and chooses" from...it's THE WHOLE WORD OF GOD and ANY part of it should be THE WORD for you regardless of WHO picks and chooses...if you REALLY believe, then be not afraid of ANY chosen part of it...if you live THE WORD, then you can defend EVERY word in THE WORD...if you can't, then you do not LIVE THE WORD...YOU seem to be doing a good job of "picking and choosing" scripture...do YOU "rule over your wife???"
