Sponsors drop support for wingnut Glenn Beck

How Glenn Beck probably feels about losing sponsorship

Conservatives’ faith in the free market must be dropping substantially today, as right-wing Fox News host Glenn Beck’s TV show has lost too many sponsors to count, including eight today. Some of the sponsors opting not to support Beck’s wingnuttery include Geico, CVS, Best Buy, Progressive, ConAgra, Wal-Mart, RadioShack, Procter and Gamble, SC Johnson and Sargento.

While Beck has a history of making outrageous and offensive comments on his show, for instance calling the families of 9/11 victims “complainers” and expressing similar hatred for Hurricane Katrina victims, the issue that led to this sudden loss of support was his claim that President Obama is a “racist” with a “deep-seated hatred of white people.” ColorOfChange.org immediately organized a petition calling for Beck’s sponsors to withdraw their support, and it’s proven a successful campaign.

In a fit of rage, the conservatives responded. It’s not fair, they said. The liberals are trying to silence Glenn Beck! they said. But what is a boycott if not consumers voting with their wallets in order to alter corporate behavior? If enough consumers contacted Beck’s sponsors and threatened boycotts if they continued supporting him, then this is simply an example of how the free market works. It will be a long time before we forget the hypocrisy of the conservatives on this issue.

Desperate to find a way to defuse the situation, conservatives began claiming that the President was somehow related to the boycott. The claim is that Van Jones, who is President Obama’s “Green Jobs” czar, was the founder of ColorofChange.org and is therefore responsible for the boycott. Unfortunately for this conspiracy theory, Jones left Color of Change in 2005. That won’t stop the wingnuts, though, who will find any way to blame the President they hate for Glenn Beck’s failure.

This is just another example of the free market at work. Over the years, Glenn Beck has insinuated that the country’s first Muslim Congressman was secretly working for the terrorists, opposed stem-cell research on the grounds that it will lead to eugenics, shrieked at radio show callers with whom he disagreed, and declared that the President of the United States hates white people. Sorry conservatives, but he’s earned this one. Perhaps after being booted from Fox News for lack of sponsorship, he’ll learn that the free market isn’t always his friend.

why stop at Glenn Beck? The whole of Foxnews is flock of bigots. Sponsers should be made aware of every racist remark made on every show on Foxnews.

What was Mr. Beck's view of the Dixie Chicks boycott? I believe he was out there up front cheering it on. How dare the Dixie Chicks criticize the President the way they did? Don't buy their records! Boycott radio stations that play them! What goes around comes around.

Thanks to the person that sent me this! I will drop walmart and walmart freshmart off my list of places to shop, I like Target better anyway, hope they arent on the list. I along with many others also, will avoid buying big ticket items that are union made. I have been boycotting proctor gamble for awhile. Glenn Beck speaks the truth on both sides. I am neither a Rep. or a Dem. I am a conservative and believe in less government and more personal responsibility.

Nice try libs. Too bad it will never work. Becks ratings are through the roof. You think other companies won't flock to advertise on this show? Besides, I heard that these companies, while leaving the Beck show, have just moved their advertisements to other day shows on Fox. No lost revenue for Fox. The companies are just acting like they care so you people will STFU.

I used to hate Wal-mart, but now I may shop there! Thank you to all the sponsors who are dropping this man and his hate-speech. The conservatives think it's ok to boycott the Dixie Chicks or whomever they find "offensive" but when the shoe is on the other foot, they scream "not fair". The conservatives will lose on this one. I hope sponsors start dropping O'Reilly (aka O'Lielly) and Sean Insanity. I am so glad that I have Geico insurance. Believe me, the people who support what these companies are doing far out-weigh the ones who don't. People with an active brain-stem do not watch Glenn Beck or his ilk.

It's nice to know who the real racist are in america. Day by day the show their ugly faces and let's just be truthful here, Lot's of people mostly the right are upset that the highest office in this nation is being run by a black man. They will stop at nothing to make sure that his full term as president is a failure, even if they have to expose themselves as the racist modern day nazi's that they are. Beck stated Obama has “a deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture” and this statement was shortly followed by Beck saying “I’m not saying he doesn’t like white people..”

This shows the clarity of mind of Glenn Beck, the straight forward truth he always speaks. Only an goofy lefty would think that having a deep seated hatred for something means you don’t like it.

    Go Glenn!

I am excited to see efferctive steps were taken to resist the dishonesty, hatefullness and rascism of a right wing commentator.

It appears all the right wing has is their big lie campaign and glorified bribes from the multinational corporations who have plundered our retirement accounts, the treasury and the environment.

Even Anorexic Ann Coulter, who said women should not be allowed to vote, admitted Obama was born in the United States and had proved it.

for 20 years, Obama attended a racist church whose pastor was buddies with black muslim Louis Farrakhon & who gave his famous "GODDAM AMERICA!" sermon. You don't sit and listen to racist diatribes like this for 20 YEARS if you don't agree. Beck is right. He just understated the truth about Obama.

I, too, will not be shopping with the sponsors who dropped Glenn. My question for the lefties would be ... why is Fox rated so highly (leaving CNN, etc., in the dust)? The answer is that many Americans are loving the fact that you can finally get unbiased reporting, unlike the "tingle up my leg" reporting on other networks. Anyone who thinks Obama is doing a good job needs to do some research instead of being sheeple. Have a great day!

Fox "News" is unbiased as fire is cold. There are hundreds of examples of Fox's obvious distortions and lies available to anyone without a severe case of confirmation bias - that certainly excludes most of Fox's viewership, which only watches the network to confirm their own views, not to challenge them or to learn.

You are all just critizizing Glenn because he tells the truth. I don't know where you got the idea that Glenn calls 9/ll victims as complainers. If you think government is the way to go, look at Britian. They are in an economic disater. They tried cap n trade, and look what they are in. i can't believe that you people complain about a guy who is in love with the founders. if Fox News is so bad, why is it ranked better then any other news station. I guess you hate the idea that you can actually do what you want to do in this country and not have to be stones to death for your beliefs. I bet you all pay your taxes with great ease. I guess you think that Obama is doing such a great job. With unemployment at 9.6% and rising
