Even though President Obama will not give a speech encouraging students to do well in school until Tuesday, anti-Obama parents across the country are already making their anger heard. In Anchorage, School District Superintendent Carol Comeau gave teachers permission to feature the President's speech in their classes and received no small amount of angry e-mails from parents committed to keeping their children from hearing anything the President has to say.
The Anchorage Daily News reported on the contents of some of these e-mails, one of which was particularly troubling: "As Adolf Hitler began to 'educate' the youth ... he created a generation of youth who were loyal to not only the fascist state but to him personally."
This is an Anchorage parent, a grown (and presumably educated) adult, who believes that when the President takes the stage Tuesday morning, he will not, as previously stated, tell students that getting a good education will prepare them for a successful career and a comfortable life. Nay, the President will seize the opportunity to twist the minds of young American children. He will plant the seeds of socialism in their minds and tell them that it's okay not to wash their hands after they go to the bathroom.
Comeau, and most rational people, are offended by this suggestion because of its one-sided nature and its reference to Nazi Germany. Extremist Republicans have embarked on a massive "Obama is Hitler" campaign, as evidenced by the countless signs at countless political events that show the President with a Hitler mustache on his face or swastikas in the background. The victims of the real Hitler, as well as their families, feel the sting of a slap across the face every time someone invokes the true evil of Nazi Germany to make a cheap political point in American society.
As it stands, though, these parents still have the right to shield their children from this pro-education propaganda for whatever reason they like. Comeau has affirmed that any parent who wants to opt out of the presentation can do so, and has suggested that schools offer alternative activities for the children forbidden to listen to the speech. In hopes that parents' fears will be assuaged, the White House will be posting the speech online prior to its delivery on Tuesday morning; both Comeau and the White House have made as clear as day that the speech is not partisan in any way, unless there's a political party that shuns education. (Hey, wait...)

Very true ... Enoctrination has been a huge part of our lives since the cold war demonizing whoever the govt says is bad and not bringing truths from the other side. I am a Libertarian due to the corruption of the democrats and republicans, so i would prefer if the govt just left me alone ... is it not bad enough they steal money from me everyday through overtaxation?
Maybe the govt should be looking into the 52,000 swiss bank accounts who were probably owned by those in office? Is this why congress was in such a hurry to settle with the bank having them pay a 3/4 billion fine?
It's time or the govt to act responsibly before our country ends up in some french style revolt ... We all don't need that.
Boyh political parties are equally corrupt, our forefathers are rolling over in their grave.
I assume that many parents in Germany also looked the other way as their children were indoctrinated regarding the party and the youth.
Commenter "Well" finds himself unable to read the article. If he had, he would have realized that not only is it insulting to the real victims of the Holocaust to draw Nazi comparisons left and right, THE SPEECH OBAMA IS GIVING IS NOT PARTISAN IN ANY CONCEIVABLE WAY.
BBC put out a documentary called "hitler's children"
Seduction, Education, Dedication, War - the process by which germany turned into nazi germany happened over a 30 year period which started during an economic crisis of inflation, war and unemployment. Obama knows this, he was taught in a socratic institution his children go to a socratic school, was their school shown the speech?
Got something to say?
