Danny Noriega is the latest American Idol contestant to speak out against Proposition 8, and he did it by participating in the NO H8 photography campaign. The NO H8 campaign features people posing in photographs with the words NO H8 painted on their faces. Many celebrities including Michael Emerson (LOST), Isaiah Washington (Grey’s Anatomy), Kathy Griffin (My Life on the D-List), Andy Dick (comedian), Steve-O (Jackass & Dancing With the Stars), Fran Drescher (The Nanny), Meghan McCain (John McCain’s daughter), Pete Wentz (Fallout Boy), Ashley Simpson-Wentz (Singer), Mark Hoppus (Blink 182), Bryan Singer (Filmmaker), and many more have all come out to participate in this protest against Proposition 8.
Everyone already knew that Danny Noriega was gay, so him participating in the NO H8 campaign is not a surprise; however the interesting thing is that he is the second American Idol contestant to speak out for marriage equality in the last few days. On September 3rd, the Examiner published a story about John Verraros marrying his longtime same-sex partner. “It just boggles my mind why the Mormon church would spend all that money on Proposition 8 to take away gay marriage, when they could be using that money and putting it towards a good cause like helping the homeless or feeding starving children,” said Verraros in the interview. He continued by saying, “If you love someone and want to get married, do it. Even if it's not legal where you live, do it because it's important”.
So that’s a total of two American Idol contestants coming out for marriage equality within a week of each other. Who will be next? Adam Lambert made it in the top two of American Idol last season, and he was about as flamboyant as they come with his tight jeans, eyeliner, and flashy performances. He was obviously gay, and the country still loved him. What are your thoughts readers? Is the door now open for more contestants to publicly support LGBT equality? The next season of American Idol is about to begin. Could it even be possible that the country is finally ready for someone in the LGBT community to win the next title of American Idol? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Fact is, Adam Lambert is around to entertain all of his fans and admirers worldwide. And if I am not mistaken, even if he is against Proposition 8, he will not be vocal about it because his one goal in life is just sing. I bet middle Americans are ready for one for as long as he is Christian -- not Muslim or Jew!
The problem as I see it is the government should have nothing to do with marriage at all. What business is it of theirs who marries who? This ever intrusive government wants to make the rules from the cradle to the grave. Washington does not have a clue as to how the Constitution limits their power. They all need to be impeached except for Dr. Ron Paul who is the only person in congress who has never voted for anything unconstitutional. People should marry whoever they want, it is not the governments business.
Did you use Adam's name to get attention? When gay people marry they will have the same problems others do when they get divorced. The lawyers try to get their hands on every dime they can. I for one do not recommend marriage to anyone. That is any type commitment that would have to get the courts and lawyers involved.
I hope Adam does not get involve. I just want him to sing and that's all he wants to do as well.
Actually "whatithink", Adam did already speak about this, in his 20/20 interview. He was asked if he would like to get married in the future. He seemed a little taken aback, but said yes, maybe someday. And that everyone has the right to love.
Adam is Agnostic, born Jewish
If a straight man said Adam was obviously gay due to hes behaviour and attire, would that be homophobic? No, but he would be accused of that...
Just for the record, the "Mormon" Church didn't donate that much money to Proposition 8. It was the members of the Church that donated. Also, the church has spent over one billion dollars in the last 20 years on humanitarian projects around the world. I don't really think Danny Noriega is in a position to be criticizing the church for not "helping the homeless or feeding starving children."
I have read that Adam is more interested in singing than getting very involved in the civil rights movement (due to personal or contractual reasons), but that said, as PR stated below, he has said in a TV interview that "everyone deserves the right to love" and has twittered his support for equality ("Thank you all for the support. Love overcomes hate. Love has no color. Love has no orientation. All is love. :)").
Kerry, I find it appropriate to mention Adam Lambert in an article that discusses gay contestants from American Idol.
Donna, we have a government to ensure the safety and security of its citizens, and our government calls for equality, freedom and justice per our constitution. Marriage has been declared as a civil right and therefore should be ruled accordingly with respect to sexual orientation.
JDD, I am unsure about the positions of various people, but I would say that the Churches should focus more on acts of love rather than acts of politics and bigotry.
I love Danny Noriega. He is the whole reason why I support the LGBT community now. I wish more people would learn to accept others for who they are. I think this year Adam Lambert changed a lot of people's views against gays. Props to both Danny and Adam for going on idol and being themselves. :)
JDD, Danny Noriega didn't make that comment about the Mormon church, that was Jim Verraros. And Jim is in a position to comment because he was raised Mormon.
I Love Danny. (: I don't think it should matter where they came from off the media. Just for who ever standing up for what they believe in, with open minds, counts. I can honestly say, Danny is my idol, and hero. The End.
I think Adam has done more for gay rights by just being a regular/grounded guy with extraordinary talent. Why should he have to be an activist? Can't he just sing? Gay writers were all over him for not coming out soon enough, now you want him to be an activist too? His first album isn't even out yet and he needs to appeal to as many people as possible. Adam's tweet was in response to his fans (of all kinds) trending God Hates Hate to number 1. I really hope Adam stays true to himself and continues to break barriers with his talent. That is what makes Adam special, he transcends it all because he is extremely talented and you can't discriminate against that. Plus, who knows Adam's personal stance on marriage (not just gay) in general? Who cares? Bring on the solo album and tour. FYI - Motley Crue was just as flamboyant, were they obviously gay? Geez..all rock n' roll is homosexual (David Bowie reference and he's married to Iman).
I guess tight jeans, eye make-up, glitter, etc...makes you obviously gay? Most of the glam rock gods of the 70's and 80's were bi or straight...Prince is all that and more and he is straight identified...does this writer know anything about androgony? I hope Adam screws around with box (and destroys) hat the high profile gay community and writers try to place openly gay entertainers in. Adam represents more than just being gay, he represents being alternative in general and he connects to everyone regardless of anything...he has that Michael Jackson/Elvis (not saying he is at that level yet) thing going on and I'll follow him for as long as he wants to entertain.
Won't even mention KISS...Gene Simmons, obviously gay right? Meatloaf, obviously gay right? They all play dressn up for a living, Adam is no different. I never looked at Adam as obviously gay while he was on Idol. I looked at Adam as the most talented person/performer that I had ever seen on that show. When a performer can do that, that is special. Adam does that and that is why he has gotten MAD LOVE all over the country during the soon-to-be-over Idol tour. I love Adam's attitude about the protesters, he said "there were like six people and I could give a sh**".
One of my favorite films is Velvet Goldmine, Adam's favorite film. The art of the sell (sexuality, confusion, and change) is a thing of beauty and Adam gets it, and I think he will have staying power because of it. You should watch this interview, youtube.com/watch?v=1Jn2Td4ILrc, and hear his take on his position as a "role model"...more than just being gay (sexuality).
the 'members' of the morman church ARE the church, u hypocrite. and accuse the right person next time idiot. u have the intelligence of a religious person. superstitious brainwashed imbecile.
Got something to say?
