Today it is with pleasure that I present an interview with the beautiful and talented lesbian author, poet and lesbian erotica marketing guru, Liquid Toffee. (Interview questions were created by my interviewer Veronica Arch.)
Jolie du Pre: Your web site features poetry, photography, spoken word clips and more. What medium (if any) are you most comfortable expressing yourself in? How do each of the different pieces fit together for you as an artist?
Liquid Toffee: The most important component of creating and making your Art visible is a designed composition of expression and passion. The equation of my comfort ability does not measure the same yet it is shared and defined through music and spoken word. My Art must be intellectually attractive and psychologically tenable. Through these collective assets others can truly perceive each emotion and taste my existence as an Artist and a woman of substance.
JDP: Who or what inspires you creatively? Who or what inspires you psychologically?
LT: Feeling that mixture of awe from the subtleties of life that promote matured growth and self awareness inspires me creatively and age me psychologically. I enjoy having that freedom to share inspiration, life’s intimacies and my passions.
JDP: You've been described as a "marketing guru". What is your philosophy about marketing and art?
LT: Marketing is an “Art”. We suffocate our target markets with various tones, or shall I say using techniques through select mediums with hopes that one or many will speak volume and enrich brand experience. Even though one may have great knowledge or expertise in this area, it is something you cannot master. The approach to strategic marketing is always changing as needs that are met change and experience through innovation change. I do feel there are concepts that we must practice. From building brand awareness to image, successful marketing requires commitment, consistency and a valued relationship with the market you are trying to reach and those who support your efforts.
In a way you can look at Art and amplify the same chords of concepts and take more of a strong ownership in that relationship you have formed with creativity and thought which expresses our very being. The art form you choose to embrace is merely an outlet for that voice of passion, voice of opinion or voice of reason.
JDP: You've been largely self-educated and have taught yourself to play musical instruments, speak foreign languages and have created your own business. Do you see a relationship between creativity and the pursuit of knowledge, especially knowledge sought outside formal institutions?
LT: Creativity for me is a lifestyle. It requires a culture of imagination. And without it my life and careers cannot progress. I feel creative potential is best reached and experienced through uninhibited, non-constricting settings. That is where “thinking outside of the box” is giving breath and produces unlimited inspiration, innovation and growth. It is through these dynamics that we acquire knowledge from every part of the universe.
JDP: What are your plans for the future? Do you have any new projects you would like to discuss?
LT: I will be touring in Australia during the 2010 Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras in Sydney, next February through March. Also, I am looking at possibly doing a few performances in New Zealand and Canada. I look forward to being on the road in 2010 experiencing new places and cultures while sharing my art.
Currently, I am working on my second book which will be filled with more short stories and my second Musoetry CD, taking you deeper into my world of love, lust, passion and heartbreaks. Also, I am continuing my studies of Hebrew and the Yoruba language.

Muahhh...Ifa Bumi
Great interview! Thanks for giving me(as a LT fan)another passage to her intellect, sexiness, and beautiful soul.
That covers so much, and leaves so much to explore.
How important is "design" in the composition of expression and passion, does that negate the organic nature of expression?
How do you balance that need for design and composition with "uninhibited, non-constricting settings"?
The sensuality of LT's expression in this interview, echoes that of her art, is her art, I feel.
I like the LT "brand experience", and this interview opens the door to an awareness of the drive behind it.
