Claudia Allen's award-winning play, "Hannah Free", based on a lesbian love affair that has stood the test of time, will be featured at the Out! For Reel GLBT film festival in Northampton this Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Directed by Wendy Jo Carlton, "Hannah Free" is the story of a 60 year old romance between two women who conquered such hardships as: homophobia, infidelity, war, and family denial in order to stay together.

The summary of the plot seems to be a "Fried Green Tomatoes" type of relationship; the main character, Hannah (Sharon Gless) described as an "adventurous, unapologetic lesbian" while her partner, Rachel, is "a strong but quiet homemaker", according to a review of the film.

The film is displayed through a past/present type scenario and is described by Carlton as "a complex story - a lesbian story, but it's also about thriving, not just surviving.  There are social and legal, cultural issues, end-of-life issues, aging issues".

The film had great success at its premiere in San Francisco and has also been shown in Los Angeles, Philidelphia, Austin and Seattle.

Hannah Free will be shown on Friday, Nov. 13th - 7:30 p.m at Northampton's Academy of Music Theatre.

Tickets are $12.50 in advance, $14.50 at the door, and $20 for the film viewing and after party, which will be held at the Grand ballroom, Hotel Northampton from 9:30 p.m. - Midnight.
