While on an investment mission to Israel, Lt. Gov. John D. Cherry, Jr, received commitments from two Israeli water treatment firms; EMECFY and EPC Ltd. Onsite Wastewater Solutions.  Cherry also co-chaired joint task group to secure future economic opportunities in Michigan and met with about 20 CEOs.

EMECFY is commercializing microbial fuel cells with the energy generated directly from waste water.  This is expected to reduce the energy costs of water treatment plants.  This technology will be helpful in food processing, agriculture and confined animal feeding operations.

EPC Lt. Onsite Wastewater Solutions will bring a pilot project to Oakland County that will help small communities deal with waste water treatment improving water quality, reduce energy costs and help with local economic development.  EPC focuses on the development, production and sales of full biological on-site water treatment plants.

Greg Main, CEO of Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) and co-chair of the joint task group, said that water technology is an important part of Michigan's economic development.

Both projects will be a part of the Green Jobs for Blue Waters program to bring economic diversity by growing the water technology sector within the state.  This program works with municipal, industrial and agricultural water treatment to assure clean and sustainable water resources.
