Ugh, how dare she stand next to the word "Sex"?

The latest issue of Cleo, a Cosmo-esque Australian magazine, recently featured Leighton Meester on the cover. Blogs have already been going at it like piranhas, citing that she is trying too hard to be sexy now that she has launched her music career. Of course, it's the person's opinion to say whether or not a star's style is to his or her taste. It comes as no surprise then, that some people prefer Eric Daman's luxurious styling of Meester's character over her own style. Fair enough. If you don't like her styling on stage for her music persona, that's fine too. You have an opinion.
However, in this case, I truly don't think it is fair at all to launch a fashion police attack on the actress as some sites have. Let's get a few facts straight.
The cover was chosen by the magazine (recently relaunched for a newer, edgier style), from a photo shoot from earlier this year done by Terry Richardson for a spread in the New York Times magazine (I have attached another photograph from that shoot for aesthetic comparison). In typical Richardson style, the shots were done with a plain background with bright exposure and an overt sexual theme.
Sex, sex, sex. Should I say it a few more times? Well, look at the cover - it's printed in bright blue.
So with all this, the stylist, the make up artist, the photographer, the magazine's new image - is it really fair to blame the actress for the fashion choices made (even though I, personally, think she looks fab and would love to rock the sequin dress for New Years)? Or is it more ammunition for those against the Leighton-music-camp to shut it down?
Without being antagonistic, please consider this. This problem of wanting an actor to behave just like his/her character does not only apply to Leighon, of course. Everyone expects Danielle Fishel to be Topanga Lawrence, Sarah Jessica Parker to be Carrie Bradshaw, and Jennifer Aniston to be Rachel Green. With this mindset, fans will never be happy or satisfied with the real thing which, to be honest, is pretty sad.

I can't believe this even needs to be said... Kudos to the author for saying it, but, I mean, come on people... Actors "act"... Hell, even SINGERS "act", it's a public persona... If you don't like someone's acting, so be it, if you don't like their music, your choice, if you don't like them as a person, hey, that's a whole different story... Bottom line is, REALIZE what is fantasy/entertainment and what is reality and don't be a moron! ;)

I actully like the cover and love that Leighton has a sexy image for herself HOWEVER her first music clip was beyond trash and could have been done without the heavy make-up
I tottally agree with you. Fans (i can't exclude myself from this generality) expect their idols, wether from a series or a movie, to behave in real life as their characters because, we all fall in love with the roles they play. What I want to say is that, even though we say " I love Leighton Meester, or I love Richard Gere..." we just love the facade, the characters they play on TV or in movies, because we dont actually KNOW them.
I do love Leighton's character in GG, i love her personality and sometimes i hate it, but that's what series are made for, to keep us there watching them every week, for us to crave to know what will happen next.
Maybe Leighton is a very great person in real life, so as far as I'm concerned, i love how she acts and how she sings, hope i can meet her someday (: and be able to say, "I know her and she is great" or maybe the opposite, youll never know how someone will turn out to be and if you'll like them till you've actually met them. Right?

See the difference between Leighton Meester and the "blogs going at her like piranhas" is that Leighton is out living a life. Looks like a fun, productive one to me. Imagine how dull Hollywood life would be if celebrities abided by the wishes of the "bloggers".

I think Leighton Meester caracters on Gossip Girls is awesome the way she plays to be Blair Waldorf is amazing but we (the fans) have to remember that is only a show (a fantastic one... but only that). Personally I'm obssesed with 4 caracters from Gossip Girl the first of tem is Nate Archibald (I love Chace Crawford and I love the inocent of his caracter), Chuck Bass (it's just exquisite), Serena Van Der Woodsen (I think that Blake Lively is an amazing actrees too) and of course Blair Waldorf (specialy when she is a completly bitch... haha my favorite phrase "haven't you hear? I'm a crazy bitch around here" lol I think Leighton is an amazing artist.. Not just as actrees she is an amazing singer too!!

This is so true! When someone loves a certain character, they automatically think that the actor/actress has to be similar to the character. Like how people always want couples on TV/Movies to be together in real life, people should understand that it's just acting. I love Leighton, and im so happy for all that she has done. More power to you girl, your voice is amazing. My favorite song is "Good Girls Go Bad" and my favorite part of that song is when you sing..i just love you!haha

I think she is amazing I love her she's awesome and people can judge but thats not gonna change the true sexyness of her. She will most deffently not go down without a fight on this
They way I see it, the responses of some just prove how good an actress she is. If you can create a character in which so many people start to believe is real and what the actress is truthfully then Leighton's acting is spot on! Some people just need to seperate reality to the shows they clearly love!

I LOVE Leighton Meester. I haven't been lucky enough to hear her music yet, but she is by far my favorite on Gossip Girl.
I adore Blair so much and same time I enjoy Leighton's fashion choice as well. I really appriciate my favorite character, Blair Waldorf is played by this really amazing actress. And I'm always amazed by her attitude to everyone and being very private person. Recently Ed Westwick commented about her really nice and I couldn't agree more. She's so cool.
