Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Mary A. Chrzanowski will preside at an Adoption Day celebration on Tuesday, November 24, 2009. The event will take place from 9:00 a.m. to Noon at the Macomb County Courthouse, 40 N. Main Street, 4th Floor, Mt. Clemens. It is open to the public.

Macomb County Circuit Court Adoption Supervisor Michael Hester confirms that six families will be adopting children during this year’s event. All of the children, who are between two and 13 years of age, are wards of the state. Most of the adoptive parents are related to the children they are adopting.

Macomb County is one of 30 Michigan counties holding Adoption Day events on or near November 24, the date designated by the Michigan Supreme Court as “Michigan Adoption Day,” when about 225 adoptions will be finalized. The event is co-sponsored by the Michigan Supreme Court, the Michigan Department of Human Services (DHS), and the Child Welfare Services division of the State Court Administrative Office.

Michigan Supreme Court Justice Diane M. Hathaway is scheduled to attend the event. Macomb County DHS representative Karen Patyi will be on hand to assist people interested in becoming foster or adoptive parents.
