It even may be used as part of an outrageous attempt to argue that Americans have to give up some of their Second Amendment rights to an international authority so that international trafficking in firearms can be properly and efficiently regulated,” warns gun rights expert John Snyder.
While the
“For some time now, gun-grabbing spokesmen have been trying to use the virtual war in Mexico between drug cartels and responsible law enforcement personnel as a wedge issue excuse to seek limitations on the individual Second Amendment civil right of law-abiding American citizens to keep and bear arms,” says John M. Snyder, named recently the senior rights activist in Washington by Shotgun News.
“This latest report seems [as if] it could be part and parcel of this ongoing attempt,” he continues. “The report states ‘available evidence indicates a large proportion of the firearms fueling Mexican drug violence originated in the United States,’ as though guns are akin to gasoline and somehow their presence can set off gang activity the way gasoline can set off the family automobile. Don’t these people realize that somebody’s got to turn on the ignition?”
As a result of the violence in Mexico adjacent to its border with the US, the latest GAO report released on Friday, June 19, laments the alleged lack of information on gun purchases by US citizens and even faults a lack of background checks conducted on citizens making private firearms sales for the violence and death occurring south of the border.
"This report is really affirming the information received by the professional gun grabbers at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. In fact, it uses numbers provided by the ATF without questioning where those numbers came from to begin with," says Lt. Stephen Rodgers, a police commander who favors the Second Amendment.
"My fear is that the Obama Administration will create a phony 'crisis' in order to justify violating the rights of citizens to own and bear arms, a constitutional right that sticks in the craw of the liberal-left power structure in this country," adds Rodgers.
The GAO claims that evidence indicates a large proportion of the firearms fueling Mexican drug violence originated in the
However, observers believe that the "90 percent" figure is based on information provided by a foreign government that relies on the
“There’s just one problem with the 90 percent ‘statistic’ and it’s a big one: It’s just not true. In fact, it’s not even close. The fact is, only 17 percent of guns found at Mexican crime scenes have been traced to the
"A large part of the guns recovered in Mexico do not get sent back to the U.S. for tracing, because it is obvious from their markings that they do not come from the US," he added.
The GAO report goes on to state that "around 68 percent of these firearms were manufactured in the
The report also states that our "government faces several significant challenges to its efforts to combat illicit sales of firearms in the
"Suddenly the [GAO] report jumps to the true intention of the federal government: controlling firearms owned by American citizens. Remember, originally Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and President Barack Obama bandied the number '95 percent' of firearms in Mexican gang possession came from the
"These people aren't concerned with border violence. If they were we'd have more Border Patrol agents with more authority to stop the illegal alien invasion and crime wave," Baker said.
The GAO report goes on to state that "certain provisions of some federal firearms laws present challenges to
Then the report lists three major concerns of federal officials: (1) restrictions on collecting and reporting information on firearms purchases, (2) a lack of required background checks for private firearms sales, and (3) limitations on reporting requirements for multiple sales.
This section is flawed according to gun rights experts who believe there are more gun laws throughout the nation than is necessary.
"There are thousands of gun laws throughout the
"This GAO report is a smokescreen to be used to turn American citizens against gun owners while characterizing Mexican criminal aliens as the victims," said Graham.
Another challenge found by the GAO is the lack of government agency coordination. ATF and Department of Homeland Security's Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the primary agencies implementing efforts to address this issue, do not consistently coordinate their efforts effectively, in part because the agencies lack clear roles and responsibilities and have been operating under an outdated interagency agreement.
"It's almost laughable. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano is practically ignoring the flood of illegals entering the
While the Obama Administration has returned to treating terrorism as a law enforcement problem -- including placing barriers between intelligence and law enforcement agencies wishing to share information -- these same government leaders want cooperation between ICE, which is charged with enforcing immigration law, and the ATF, which is charged with enforcing regulations regarding alcohol, cigarettes and tobacco, firearms, and explosives.
"Once again, while worrying about foreigners' and illegal aliens' rights, the feds want ICE and the ATF to join forces against law-abiding citizens who only wish to own firearms for protection and sport. This is indicative of repressive government working without having to worry about exposure by a left-wing news media," warns Graham.
The GAO states that "this [report] has given the

Ahhh, the sickening smell of red herring in the morning.
News papers must be told to place these kinds of pieces. This story has been going around all year and has been debunked numerous times.
The volume of weaponry that Mexico is seeing comes from China and Africa through conduits up from lower Latin America. Also, Iran funded Hizbullah factions are operating there that are actively subverting in Mexico.
But let's for a brief moment humor this author and his boilerplate "obamaland" spiel.
1) Being personally armed in one's own defense is a human rights issue. As a human rights issue, as we have been told so many times, borders do not exist.
We therefore have the right to arm the Mexican people if we want to because they have a right to the arms.
2) And the bottom line, if Mexico really believes that significant weaponry is coming from the U.S., and (this is key) they want to stop it, the border is a two way street.
If weaponry is going south, and it's getting thr
The only way to stop this non-sense violence. Is to cut off the demand. The USA gov need to launch a social campaign to educate its citizens on the use of drugs and their consequences. as long as the gringos keep on sniffing the Mexicans will keep on providing drugs and the violence will keep escalating. The gringos have a huge social problem with drugs that they need to address. Agreements, finger pointing , law enforcement and all that bull WONT stop the problem.
Hummm, let's see. How can American gun owners be responsible for violence in Mexico if they own their guns in the United States? Oh wait a minute, if there is violence in Mexico it must be because of MEXICAN GUN OWNERS!
The Feds have to blame someone besides themselves.Their just a bunch of idots anyway.I don' understand how they blame the american gun owners.Don't Meican people have there own guns? I don't agree with half the crap the papers say anyway. you don't get the whole truth about anything.
Read the report for yourself
www.gao.gov/new.items/d09709.pdf
One needs to see with their own eyes how contrived, convoluted and insidious this report actually is. Then and only then is it possible to see the antigunners in their true light, that they will use any amount of lies to achieve their objective to do it, and they are using our tax dollars to generate and spread those lies.
After reading it myself I became convinced that "reasonable restriction" is the going to be thier approach. Many gun owners have CCW (government approval) and don't nessicarily view licensing and registration as limitations on their firearms rights. Pushing for registration and comprehensive ownership lists could actually work in the banners favor by taking advantage of divisions that exist within the various philosophies of gun ownership rights and needs, in the gun owning community. How many gun owners have you heard say "No one needs an assault rifle"
maybe if they could find some honest mexicans.they could stop all them guns at the border..itsa well known fact. you can buy off a mexican cop with a crisp 20 dollar bill
I just came up with the best solution to this problem. Let's make a deal with the Mexican government. We'll stop letting our firearms get into their country if they'll stop letting their people into ours.
But on a lighter note, corrupt governments (ours and theirs) will try to put blame on anyhting but the real problem. Where does cocaine come from? Why is the lower southwest over run with drugs and Mexican gangs? Where do Mexican gang members come from? Where do their drugs come from? Hmmm.
Does Putin,Venezuela,Chavez,AK47 factory come to anyones mind?It seems our government will lie big time to avoid looking at the truth.
Obama and Clinton need to resign before they embarass themselves and the country more than they already have. Obama's own legal status as a US citizen is in front of the Supreme Court.
The problem can be easily fixed by the Mexican government. They just need to build a fence along the US/Mexico border. This will keep the US guns from sneaking into Mexico. Simple, huh ?
One of the biggest lies told by the Obamanator is now finally out in the open (thanks Mr. Holder) and now they show us all their true colors. For those of you who didn't believe it, and said he would never attempt it, and those who said, Obama! "Why He's a man of his word". Now you can read for yourself what a liar he really is. And so the assault on our God given Liberties and our Freedom begins! Welcome to the OBAMANATION and to the USSA! (United Socialist States of America)(Viva la Berry) This yahoo is going to make Bubba Clinton look like a rank amateur.
O and by the way. The insinuation that the Mexicans are getting their sophisticated weapons from the US is pure B.S. when was the last time you walked into a Wal-Mart or Kmart and purchased an Automatic weapon? How about a hand grenade?? Never you say! That's because it requires special permits and licenses from the Gov't and the BATFE to buy Fully Automatic Firearms and when you do receive your permit to own one they are ext
expensive costing tens of thousands of dollars to acquire, and hand grenades are completely illegal to own outside of the Military. If the Mexican Cartels are obtaining any type of firearms from the US, they are not obtaining them from legal sources as you or I would, they are obtaining them illegally from criminal sources just like our criminals do. This only proves when you outlaw firearms only the outlaws will have them. And for those of you sitting on your duffs bashing the NRA, what was the last thing you accomplished in the war against out freedoms? What was the last lawsuit you supported? When was the last time you were in Washington lobbying for our rights and liberties? Not recently I suspect
BTW: I don't think we need to worry about a terrorist group sneaking an "A" bomb into DC! As that would be counter productive to their efforts. Washington as of January 2009 is their greatest ally, and they don't need to do anything as the current administration will bring this country
down faster than any bomb or attack ever could!
2010 & 2012 cant get here fast enough! I just hope the Country can last that long, and survive the OBAMANATION!
The worldwide king of "MANUFACTUING AND SELLING WEAPONS" is the US gov. all the while screaming PEACE. What a bunch of hypocrites. Its time to flush the toilet.
Does anybody actually believe anything the government says? Come on even Americans can't buy full auto's. They can't even be modified. Last time I counted there were more AR-15's in the hands of American citizens than any government in the world. Hear that libs?
How about we cut all ties with mexico don't let anymore, free loading illegals come to the us, It is about time for the united states to take a stand as our fore fathers did. and weed out all those bleeding heart cry babys out of goverment,
