Urban bachata powerhouse Aventura swept the Premio lo Nuestro 2010 edition, with five wins, including best album and tropical song of the year, as well as best traditional tropical artist.
The chart-topping group bagged prizes for its album “The Last” and the song “Por un segundo.” It also won awards as best duo or group and as the year's top Premio lo Nuestro artist.
One of the year's most popular music acts, the Premio lo Nuestro was held Thursday night at the American Airlines Arena in Miami, where hundreds of Latin music stars glowed as they paraded down a red carpet before the event, which was aired live on Univision.
Several Puerto Rican artists also took home prizes, including Luis Fonsi, La Secta All-Stars, Melina León, Wisin & Yandel and Tito “El Bambino.”
Fonsi, who's currently separated from his wife, Puerto Rican actress Adamari López, snagged awards for best pop male artist and song of the year for “Aqui estoy” and best collaboration of the year.
Rockers La Secta All-Stars won a prize in the best rock album category, while Melina León took home best female tropical artist of the year.
Reggaetón greats Wisin&Yandel bagged best urban artists of the year and best urban album for “Wisin y Yandel presentan DJ Nesty La Mente Maestra.”
For his part, Tito “El Bambino” took home the best urban song of the year award for “El amor.”
Meanwhile, legendary Puerto Rican Latin pop star Chayanne snagged the night's excellence award.
