The American Kennel Club (AKC) recently announced the top 5 most popular AKC - registered dog breeds in Las Vegas for 2009. These rankings were based on registration data derived from Las Vegas zip codes as specified by the US Postal Service. Two new breeds eased into the Vegas top 5 dog breeds listing for 2009 ( vs 2008 rankings ) , as Shih Tzus and Golden Retrievers replaced Yorkshire Terriers and Poodles in the number 4 and 5 rankings, respectively. The top three breed rankings in 2009 were identical to the 2008 numbers. Final rankings for Vegas top 5 dog breeds for 2009 and 2008 along with the most popular dog breed rankings nationwide for 2009 follows.

Nationwide, AKC registration numbers once again indicate that Labrador Retrievers are the most popular dogs in America (for the 19th consecutive year). Labs are also the most popular dog in Las Vegas as well. The German Shepherd breed made the most significant move nationwide by overtaking Yorkshire Terriers as the number two breed. The German Shepherd's national ranking as the number two ranked dog breed is significant in that this ranking hasn't been observed in more than three decades.

looks like over the years, the Vegas dogs get bigger!
I love all the great pics of the dogs!!
Labs seem a bit laid back for Vegas, but they look as though their lives are fun.
What an interesting list. I can agree that when we move into a place with more room, I would be happy to have any (or all!) of those dogs listed on that list.
Love the dog with the sunglasses!
Funny how different the popular breeds are in NYC... all I see are pugs and Dachshunds on the streets!
Interesting how the popularity of certain breeds changes over the years. As a cat person, I'd like to see the same kind of tally on popularity of cat breeds.
Interesting list and good idea to compare to the nation.
