Weight loss is always difficult whenever you go somewhere--to the movies, out to a restaurant or even over a friend's place for dinner. It's not possible to plan out every snack or meal, and food is a major source of unpredictability at weekend LARPs. This is the time of year to make resolutions--not worry about breaking them!
Here are some tips to help you stay on track:
Natural workout. Regardless of your diet weight loss method, you should adjust for extra food or calories based on your activity level. If you're participating in a boffer LARP and you plan to fight (or walk around a lot more than usual), adjust your diet.
Pack some snacks. Pack some nutritious snacks. Although refrigeration isn't always available to players, consider protein bars and drinks like Gatorade, which contain electrolytes.
Check the menu. Some LARPs post weekend menus in advance. Check the game's Web site and see if you need to substitute a meal with something you'll bring along.
Talk to staff. Contact a member of staff and explain about your dietary needs. He or she may let you use refrigerator space for your own food or possibly provide an alternative food.
Stay hydrated. Water keeps you full (and healthy) during all LARP seasons. If you are well-hydrated, your hunger will be reduced.
Off days and 'banked points.' If you have an 'off day' or are on Weight Watchers and can bank points, be disciplined during the week and use your banked points over the weekend. You won't have to be as concerned with what type of food is served.
Have fun! The best way to avoid overeating is to become quickly occupied with something else. Sometimes we eat because we are bored...so if you aren't having fun at a LARP, make some fun happen.
