Mark your calendars: spring will arrive on February 18 at the Richmond Convention Center and advanced tickets are on sale now. No matter what the weather is outside, you can expect a visit to the Maymont Flower & Garden Show to be the first harbinger of spring.
The 21st annual event will feature acres of beautiful and inspiring gardens, speakers, a marketplace and an exhibit of works from students at Hanover High School and Oak Knoll Middle School. You can also enter to win a trip to the world-famous Chelsea Garden Show in London. A portion of the proceeds from the show goes to support the Maymont Foundation, which maintains the grounds at Maymont and produces educational programs and community events.
This garden show is fun for many reasons and you can experience it in any way you choose. You can decide to hit some of this year’s seminars to learn about gardening topics like new varieties of perennials, adjusting your soil pH, sustainable landscaping, and invasive species. You can decide to walk around with your pencil and sketchbook taking notes of inspiring design ideas that catch your fancy. Or you can just wander through the exhibits, breathing in the intoxicating scent of soil and flowers, feasting your winter-weary eyes on riotous color, feeling your toes beginning to thaw in anticipation of nice weather to come.
Show tickets are $10 for adults, but advanced tickets for $8 can be purchased through February 17 at several locations around town or online.
