Americans return to travel, budget vacations, getting the best value

To lure the American dollar back their way, travel incentives offered by the hotel and airline tourist industry during the economic slowdown are a money saving way for American consumers on diminished budgets to slowly return to leisure and holiday travel. The travel industry reports projections that over $519 billion will be spent on leisure travel in 2010. That's up from $489 billion in 2009, when the bottom fell out of the market and even executives and CEOs believed it insensitive to plan luxurious family vacations, when they were laying off employees during the economic downtown.

Incentives to travel include all-inclusive vacation packages with the cheapest airfare, hotel, and food included in one price. Children under 12 stay for free in hotels. Heavy discounts on cruise reservations made a year or more in advance. Spa treatments and scenic tours offered with a hotel reservation, reward programs set up by hotels and airlines, free breakfasts, all attractive enticements by the tourist industry to attract revenue.

The great majority of American consumers are looking for the best value for their dollars, you betcha'. Weekend trips instead of week-long or ten-day stays, camping trips, bed and breakfasts accommodations, instead of luxury days pool-side at 5 star hotels, travel deals with all-inclusive packages, 'children stay free' family vacations, cruises with deep price reductions. It's a wonderful incentive. I love the family deal because family travel is so nice. And we must start incentives somewhere. Thanks for sharing.

  • Good article, and who can afford extravagant travels now-a-days? Who wants to depleat their savings? Although for many who work travel is a must to get away and just relax. Thank you for a good article Sharon.

Great money saving ideas for Americans to enjoy travel. Thank you

  • Family deals and incentives are great. Many people have skipped vacations because of the expense, this is wonderful to get the family out for a trip without being financially burdened.
