The Red Brick District of Long Beach Celebrates 100 Years

Nicknamed The City By The Sea, Long Beach (one of the only two cities in Nassau County, the other being Glen Cove) sprawls across a barrier island off of Long Island's sandy South Shore and is home to a historical district known as the Red Brick District.

Named for its whimsical, colonial red brick streets, West Penn Street has recently celebrated its 100-year anniversary with a parade and festival that was designed to mimic a photo of a similar celebration that took place about a century ago.

The most notable landmark in the Red Brick Street Historic District is the Pauline Felix House, whose building dates back to the establishment of the red brick streets. Named for its first owner, it has been lovingly (and award-winningly) restored by its current owners Landmarks Vice President Martha Ross and her husband Richard and sits on the National Register of Historic Places.
