Ice skating at Lake Tahoe

Ice skating at Lake Tahoe is delightful wintertime family fun.  The Lake Tahoe area is host to five ice skating rinks in the following locations:   Heavenly VillageNortstar-at-Tahoe, the South Lake Tahoe Ice Arena, High Camp at Squaw Valley  and Truckee Regional Park. 

At Heavenly Village, the ice rink is surrounded by shops, a movie theater and then by several great family-friendly lodging options.  A one day pass that allows you to come and go throughout the day is $15 for children and $20 for adults. Ice skates are available for rent.  Call ahead to arrange lessons.  Lessons are $30 per 1/2 hour.  For more information call:  (530) 542-4230.

South Lake Tahoe Recreation Complex - Ice ArenaAlso at South Lake Tahoe is the South Lake Tahoe Ice Arena an indoor rink located at the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Complex (click here to see video).  This public facility offers ice skating and hockey lessons as well as public skate sessions. It's $3 to rent ice skates, unless you're five years old or younger, and then it's free.  The public skate session prices are: Adults: $9.00; Seniors: $8.00;Youth: $8.00; Child (5 and under): $6.00 (includes skates); Skate Rental: $3.00;Public Skating Passes: 12 uses for the price of 10!

 El Dorado County residents receive a $1.50 discount off admission price with proof of residency.  The arena also offers lockers, a small cafe, video games and a pro shop.  Parking is free.  For more information on parties, lessons, and leagues call the Ice Arena at (530) 542-6262. 

The Village at NorthstarThe ice skating rink at Northstar-at-Tahoe is surrounded by restaurants and shops; it's immediately adjacent to the gondolaAlso in the village are condos, available for ownership or rental by the night or longer.The ice skating rink is free for all, and for those who have no skates, $5 rentals are available on location.  The rink is open, during the winter months, from 1p to 8p daily.  To confirm hours and for more information, call: (530) 562-3689.

There is plenty of free parking available, and  free valet parking for dining guest with a $10 purchase and validation at any food outlet. Preferred paid parking  is available for $20 during regular season and $30 for peak season.

Located just down the road from Northstar is the Truckee Ice Rink located in Truckee Regional Park.  Scheduled to open at 10a. the Friday following Thanksgiving, this outdoor rink is somewhat of a locals' secret.  To confirm hours and for more information, call: (530) 587-6172.

Squaw Valley ice rink at High CampAnd finally, but most certainly not least, is the Squaw Valley Ice Rink located at High Camp.  To access this rink, you take a breath-taking ride up the Squaw Valley Cable Car to High Camp.  At the end of your 2,000 foot verticla ascent you'll fin the High Camp Bath & Tennis Club and the ice rink.  To ride the cable car and skate you will pay the following:  Adults: $29;  Youth (13 to 18): $24; Children 12 and under: $15.
