Ron Paul votes against his own amendment

Congressman Ron Paul (R Texas) is the last true statesman. Want proof, the Congressman and 2008 Presidential candidate fought more than twenty years to finally create an amendment to fully audit the Federal Reserve, which is the main cause of the present financial crisis.

The Audit the Fed bill was accepted as an amendment to a larger bill, the Wall Street Regulatory Overhaul. Even though the congressman’s bill was attached he could not in good faith vote for the larger legislation. Imagine a country full of men like that. Imagine just having 100 representatives like that.

The legislation will now go to the Senate for a vote. Ron Paul said “I have no clout in Congress, it was the people (grass roots) who made this happen.” A good guess would be that the Senate will try to take this amendment out. Reportedly, Senator’s are a little closer to those at the Fed than Congressman. It will be up to the people once again to make sure this amendment sticks if the larger bill is passed.

Voters should take notes from Dr. Paul on this issue. When your representatives have back bones like him liberty will flourish. People must become more involved and not fall for the left/right nonsense. There obviously is still room for honesty and integrity in Washington but it will be up to you to make it happen.

As you can see auditing the Federal Reserve is not an easy task. Some say they are more powerful than the President since they control the money supply. It’s reported that John F. Kennedy tried to abolish this powerful organization before being assassinated. Auditing it has been hard enough.

Any Senator to oppose the Audit is exposing him/her self as an enemy of the American people and a sellout, bought and paid for by criminal bankers.

This article is at best disingenuous and naive, and at worst intentionally deceptive and malicious. Ron Paul did not vote against his own bill, he voted against it being attached to another bill that would give the federal reserve unlimited powers. This is nothing more than a classical straw man attack. Unless the title of this article is changed it is nothing but lies and slander.

Actually, Vipercat, the bill was up for a vote today and Ron Paul had to vote against it. His audit bill was folded into this larger package and was filled with stuff he could not vote for. It doesn't matter, really, since it still passed and his audit section is still there. It still has to get through the Senate, the courts (if challenged), and be signed by the President.

Oh, I also forgot to mention that Ron Paul is the man. This is the only guy I've seen in DC that I would be PROUD to meet. Kucinich isn't a bad guy either, although he tends to be more to the left than I would like.

  • Why the lies? 2 years ago

Obviously this guy doesn't know what he is talking about. Ron Paul did not vote against his bill HR 1207, and he didn't vote against it when it was added as an "amendment" to HR 4173. He did vote against HR 4173, even though his bill was added as an amendment.
Ron Paul didn't fight for 20 years to get to "finally create an amendment".
The article would have been fine without the misleading title and first paragraph.

Thank you Captain America for pointing that out. It should be a reminder to everyone to pay closer attention to what's going on. If they had been paying attention they would have gotten the idea of this article. Ron Paul devoted his life to warning people about the Fed. When he finally got his amendment passed and onto the bill he could not vote for the actual bill the amendment was in because of the other crap in the bill. Get it guys? If you don't get it you never will. You have to have integrity to appreciate it.

Great article. One gripe: The headline can lead to misunderstandings. Ron Paul didn't vote against his HR1207 bill/amendment (as the headline says); he voted against the larger, fascistic, financial bill despite his good amendment - which he never intended to be a part of the bill in the first place. The story explains this but the headline by itself makes Dr. Paul sound capricious instead of principled and consistent.

That is right Christian. Any U.S. Senator who does not vote to audit the Fed cannot be trusted and should be kick out of office ASAP.

The title was not misleading, malicious, naive, disingenuous, or any of that. It was a "hook" to get someone to read the article, and it worked. It's the same kind of title added to hundreds of articles every day with just enough twist to pique someone's interest so they will read further. It's obvious that Mr. Rule loves what he sees in Rep. Paul and the title should not color your opinion against him when its intent was to catch the attention of those who would otherwise not be interested. Thanks, Mr. Rule for this article.

The title was misleading, because it is false. I understand a "hook", but hooks should not deceive, be creative, but not deceitful. I don't care if the author meant it for good, as you can find out by reading the article. It may be that the author learned this technique from Drudge
    1. RP never voted against his own amendment.
    2. RP "fought more than twenty years to finally create an amendment to fully audit the Fed".
    3. The first sentence: "RP is the LAST true statesman". Really, how does the author know he is the LAST?
I understand the author's intent, but he should give the facts. People may read the headline and think RP is a goof, as that is what the title portrays and what the author may have wanted to portray in order to "hook" people. Well it may "hook' some, but some may just read the title in Google, laugh and move on.
If I wrote an article title RP Gets Girl Pregnant, and then went on to talk about his wife and kids, that article would at least have the facts stra

Good article, even if that really sucks. But, like Dr. Paul says, it is the message that is really making the difference. I can see it around me every day. People are waking up. "Remember, remember the 11th of December..."

Matt, my dear, you are full of hogwash.

The title indeed is a great "hook" and NO ONE in their right mind would believe they understand what's at issue from just reading that generic title.

If people don't like Ron Paul, they would be piqued to find some "proof" that he isn't a principled man, only to find out, by reading the article, that he IS principled.

So it's a great title, and you obviously have no idea what communication is all about. Sorry, darling.

JFK really tried to end run the FED. In 1962, he ordered the Treasury Department to issue $5 Silver Certificates instead of getting the next infusion of circulating cash from the FRB. That was the first time in decades that the Treasury followed the Constitution in regards to monetary policy. It obviously wasn't the "only nail" in his coffin.

The American people will one day rue the fact that, in the person of Ron Paul, they had the rarest of opportunities to elect a true statesman and a man of unimpeachable integrity as President, and they went brain-dead.

Our country is toast because there are so few Congressmen and Senators with intelligence coupled with integrity. Ron Paul has had an exemplary career as a giant in a capital filled with pygmies. How he manages to continue to treat his fellow politicians with civility is beyond me. He's a small man in physical stature but a true man of steel in his character.

Robert writes about integrity. His "Bio" states, "Robert Rule is only interested in the truth. . ." But rather than discuss the false statements in his article, as someone with integrity would do, he denigrates those bring them up. If Robert Rule had integrity he would not use false statements to get readership. Sorry Robert, but I will continue to teach students to use facts and write creatively, rather than use false statements and call them "hooks".
It is obvious from Robert's statement above that he still doesn't understand the difference between a bill and an amendment.

    Hey Matt

You really have to split hairs to bolster your contention that the author was being deceptive in his article. When Dr. Paul voted against the LARGER bill, he was ALSO voting against his amendment which was attached. This was a "headline" and was not designed to convey every detail contained within the body of the article. There was nothing false or misleading about this story, but rather YOUR misunderstanding. The only person thought of as a "goof" is you.

If you have great concern about deceit being exposed, then you should have plenty to say about the substitute legislation being promulgated in Congress giving the American people the impression that Wall Street and the FED will be held accountable and open to scrutiny, when in reality more authority and less "government in the sunshine" is planned. How are you going to teach your students anything unless you know more than them?

Matt is correct. The headline of this piece is deceiving. I agree the underlying article is quite flattering to Ron Paul, but do you realize how few people actually read the article? Most people browse the Google (or whatever) News headlines and stop there.

Perhaps a better headline would be "Ron Paul forced to vote against his own amendment"

It would be nice to see something about how sleazy it was for his bill to be attached to this nasty amendment.

However, if this nasty amendment is going to go far, then hopefully the one good thing will be the audit the Fed part. (Although I would bet my life savings that the Fed will somehow either get that audit out or tame it to such an extent that it ends up acting like a protecting shield. What will emerge is a bill that looks like it audits the fed, has no teeth at all, and will shut down the issue once and for all.

    Dear Matt, the pompous truth-seeker,
Perhaps, Mr. Rule oversteps into silly territory with his claims to purport truth. But is it not true that we are ALL wrong from time to time? Perhaps, the Kennedy comment was an over-step into a very complex issue, shrouded in conspiracy and debate. But for someone to simply to attempt to synthesize a cohesive, correct analysis of society with the overwhelming amount of truthiness (shout out to Stephen Colbert) and pure deception amassed from mainstream media. To seek truth in an empire of lies is a noble act. To be wrong from time to time is to be expected. But to scorn others for attempting to overturn secrecy and deception in media, well that is to ridicule your fellow-man with the end result of the perpetuation of ignorance and unnecessary bickering over trivialities, thus distracting from more noble causes.
