I know it's cold out. But there are some creatures that absolutely love this weather. This weekend, the Morton Arboretum is showcasing an animal that thrives in these frigid temperatures: the husky.

On Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. visitors can learn all about this incredible breed. This is Morton's sixth year running the event and it is not to be missed! There is literally something for everyone. I, as a young adult, had the time of my life last year.

What can you do there? First and foremost the event to see is the mushing demonstration. This will be run four times during each day (11:45 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 2:00 p.m., 3:15 p.m.). The demonstrations are amazing. You can really see how passionate these dogs are for running. (My sister thinks mushing is cruel punishment for the dogs...but once you see how excited the dogs get when they see their harness...these dogs live to run).

Another great portion of the event is the half  hour long documentary about the 1925 serum run. The presentation is lead by energetic husky lovers and is really educational. Don't worry - kids will love it. The presentation is short and interesting enough that most kids would love it. But be forewarned: tickets are free and first come, first serve. You will stand in line for a very long time. The show times are 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

You can take your picture with a real sled and load up on husky merchandise. This is perfect timing to load up on your sled dog trivia as the 2012 Iditarod approaches.

Last event (and maybe most important) is that there will be about 30 huskies up for adoption. I wanted to take them all home last year.

They run this event with or without snow. For more info: http://www.mortonarb.org/calendar/article/22690/husky-heroes-meet-the-huskies.html
